    What is Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain?

    bangkok bts skytrain guide
The BTS Skytrain is a transport system that runs above ground, and consists of two lines: the Silom Line from National Stadium to Bang Wa, and the Sukhumvit Line from Kheha to Mo Chit. The two lines intersect at Siam Station, with several stops connecting to the underground MRT system as well.
    The interconnecting stations are:
    • Mo Chit BTS and Chatuchak MRT
    • Sala Daeng BTS and Silom MRT
    • Asoke BTS and Sukhumvit MRT
    • Ha Yaek Lat Phrao BTS and Phahon Yothin MRT
#KlookTip: Avoid the crowds by travelling outside the peak hours of 7am to 9am, and 5pm to 7pm. If you’re travelling with little ones, children under 90cm get to ride for free too.

How do you use the BTS Skytrain?

    bangkok bts skytrain guide
You can either buy single journey cards, a day pass, or get a prepaid card.
The single journey cards are essentially point-to-point tickets, and can range from THB17 (~S$0.70) to THB47 (~S$1.90)  per ride depending on the destination. One-day passes cost THB150 (~S$5.90; snag them for S$5 on Klook), and are valid for unlimited travel on the date of issue (from 6am to 12 midnight).
For added convenience, get a pre-paid Rabbit card! This is basically Bangkok’s version of Singapore’s ez-link card used for the BTS and other transport systems. It can be bought for THB200 (~S$7.80), inclusive of a THB100 (~S$3.90) card issuance fee, and a stored value of THB100 (~S$3.90).
However, a caveat is that the Rabbit card can be used at most stations, but you might need an additional top-up for select outlier stations. P/S. There’s even a nifty Rabbit Rewards system! Earn points with every journey, which can be used to redeem discounts and perks at partner vendors.
    bangkok bts skytrain guide
PSA: You’ll now need to register for a card at ticket offices; or, skip the lines by buying your card on Klook, and collecting it at either Suvarnabhumi Airport or Central World shopping mall. If you’re not planning on getting a Rabbit card, make sure that you have lots of coins in denominations on hand. Most ticketing machines are coin-operated, with the exception of some new machines.
#KlookTip: Arm yourself with the BTS Skytrain app for real-time train schedule updates. You can also top up your Rabbit card via the app.
