What and where is Hakuba?
Hakuba is a popular skiing village in the Japanese Alps in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture, offering travelers picturesque valleys and powdery white snow, especially during wintertime. It gained worldwide recognition and popularity when it hosted the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, and to this day, visitors can still use and enjoy some of these Olympic facilities.
The village is easily accessible from Tokyo, and while it is possible to just do a day trip to Hakuba, we recommend staying there for a couple of nights to enjoy the ski village as much as possible! There are also other winter sports to enjoy besides skiing, such as snowboarding and tubing.
And if you’re not feeling like doing sports, the town also has onsens or hot springs around that will definitely help soothe your body from the cold winter wind. So, if you’re planning a day trip to Hakuba, you might also want to consider spending the night in town! We’ve got your back because here’s a list of hotels in Hakuba Valley Ski Area that you can check out to help with your travel planning!
