Looking For a Convenient Stay in Fukuoka? Check out These Hotels Near Hakata Station, Tenjin, and More

Did you know that Fukuoka is Japan’s fifth-largest city? It used to be two separate cities, namely the castle town of Fukuoka and the merchant town of Hakata. In 1889, both towns merged to create the city of Fukuoka that we know today!
The less-touristy counterpart of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, Fukuoka city is the capital of Fukuoka prefecture. The city functions as the gateway to Kyushu, where you can easily take the train to places like Kumamoto, Beppu, and Kagoshima.
#KlookTip: For the best bang for your buck, arm yourself with the JR Kyushu Rail Pass.

The city is divided into three areas: the main Hakata transport hub; the cultural Tenjin district; and Nakasu, which comes alive once night falls. Plus, believe it or not, the main Hakata station is less than ten minutes away from the airport via subway!

    Hakata station

The bustling Hakata station is the main station in Fukuoka city, and is accessible using the JR West, JR Kyushu, and Fukuoka city subway lines. If you’re taking a Shinkansen from Osaka, you’ll end up here.
To get to the airport, simply hop onto the Kuko subway line for a mere two stops.

    1. JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo

    Hotels near Fukuoka Train Stations
Distance to Hakata station: 2 minutes walk
If you’ve been travelling in Japan, you’d notice that many hotel rooms are on the smaller side. However, say cheers to more space at JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo, where the rooms are moderately bigger than usual! Located right opposite Hakata station, the hotel has many room categories — all of which come with bamboo flooring at the entrance, on top of a red-accented headboard above the bed(s). P/S. The premier twin offers moisturising facial steamers and separate washstands too.
#KlookTip: If you’re travelling with kids, feel free to request a kids’ amenity set (containing a toothbrush set and disposable slippers) at the reception.
Feeling hungry? Head on over to Nanatsu-no-hana restaurant, which uses ingredients sourced from Kyushu to whip up healthy dishes. Highlights include Hakata ramen, burdock tempura udon, and stewed tripe (a local delicacy). At night, the restaurant transforms into an elegant bar that entices with food and alcohol pairings.

    2. Hotel Nikko Fukuoka

Hotels near Fukuoka Train Stations Hotel Nikko Fukuoka
Distance to Hakata station: 3 minutes walk
Have you heard of Japan’s culture of omotenashi? Originating from the traditional tea ceremony, omotenashi is the act of caring about, and looking after, one’s guests. Indeed, omotenashi is deeply interwoven into Hotel Nikko Fukuoka’s operations, and guests can expect nothing less than top-notch service during a stay at the hotel.
Accommodation-wise, stay in single, double, twin, premier twin, or triple rooms. If you’re feeling fancy, splash out on a massive suite room; otherwise, soak in the local culture with an elegant Japanese-style room that looks out onto a Japanese garden. There’s a universal room too, with a barrier-free layout that’s suitable for the elderly or wheelchair users.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, are we right? Choose from a Western or Japanese spread; we’re already drooling over the latter, which features Hakata specialities like okyuto seaweed noodles or tori no mizutaki (chicken hotpot). For an extra fee, you can even get your breakfast delivered to your room.
#KlookTip: On a rainy day, get to Hakata station easily via an underground passage.

For added comfort, each room comes with a quality Simmons bed and soft feather pillows for you to sink your head into.
There are lots of restaurants at Hakata station, but we’ve got our eyes on the onsite restaurant. Channelling the idea of ‘local production for local consumption’, it offers healthy meals that are cooked using local and seasonal ingredients. How yummy does that sound?

The room comes with all the basic amenities — think: shampoo, conditioner, soap, nightwear, deodorant spray, slippers… the works. Otherwise, check out the adorably named ‘amenity buffet’, which has toothbrushes (with the choice of normal or extra-fine bristles), extra towels, shoeshine papers, and beverages.
Even better, the hotel strives to do its best for the environment by adhering to various Sustainable Development Goals. It does so by using environmentally-friendly materials to produce its amenities and changing the cleaning frequency for consecutive nights.

#KlookTip: We use our phones for everything, and boy does the battery run out fast. For added convenience, rent a portable charger with a universal adaptor to juice up your device on the go.

    6. Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel

Hotels near Fukuoka Train Stations Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel

This hotel may be a little bit of a trek from Hakata station, but hear us out. Marked by a colourful facade and a unique curved structure, Canal City Fukuoka Washington Hotel is directly connected to the mega Canal City complex. How does having a wide range of restaurants, cafés, and shops on your doorstep sound? P/S. Don’t miss out on the fountain show from 10am to 5pm daily; and when night falls, marvel at the ‘Canal Aqua Panorama’ 3D projection mapping show.
The rooms may not be the most modern, but they offer an old-school elegance complete with all the creature comforts you desire. Before you head out in the mornings, fuel up with an extensive breakfast. We’re talking about over sixty different menu items, including Hakata specialties like mentaiko, and grilled Kyushu-raised fish.

Comfort without breaking the bank — which is exactly what you’ll get at Hotel Monterey La Soeur Fukuoka. The hotel’s design is inspired by Belgian art, in a bid to showcase Fukuoka’s standing as an international city bridging Japan to the rest of the world. The result? A magnificent property filled with gorgeous artwork and antique furnishings.
In line with the theme, the rooms are also themed after Belgian art nouveau and art deco. Fancy a single, double, twin room, or suite? The hotel has got them all.

    11. Nishitetsu Inn Fukuoka

Hotels near Fukuoka Train Stations Hotel Nishitetsu Inn Fukuoka

Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet has been discontinued since the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now served ala-carte style. Otherwise, feel free to leave your luggage at the hotel whilst you go out to explore!

    Nakasu-Kawabata

A stop on the Kuko and Hakozaki lines of the Fukuoka City Subway Nakasu-Kawabata Station is the nearest station to Nakasu Island in the Naka River. Known as Fukuoka’s nightlife and entertainment district that comes alive once dusk falls, Nakasu is also reputed for its food
You’ll find more than 3,000 restaurants and cafés here, including Ichiran Ramen’s headquarters. The area is also filled with Yatai, delicious street food stalls that only start opening in the evening. Each Yatai is contained in a tent, and can typically seat around seven to eight diners. Hakata ramen, yakitori, or oden, anyone?

    12. Hotel Okura Fukuoka

Hotels near Fukuoka Train Stations Hotel Okura Fukuoka
Distance to Nakasu-Kawabata station: 2 minutes walk
Just two minutes away from Nakasu-Kawabata station, Hotel Okura Fukuoka is a great base for discovering the area. The rooms here are admittedly a little dated, but they’re spacious and functional. In fact, they’re really quite large by Japanese standards! Keep a lookout for the standard amenities, plus some special ones like foundation and hair bands.
Dining wise, be spoilt for choice with not just one, but nine dining establishments. From an all-day buffet restaurant and Japanese fare like sushi or teppanyaki to Chinese or French cuisine, you’re bound to find something that suits your tastebuds. Travelling in a group or young children? Many of the hotel’s restaurants have private rooms available for reservation.
#KlookTip: If you’d like to explore more, make a reservation at the front desk — and the General Manager will guide you to some of the nearby spots for free!

Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu is all set to impress with four tiers of room types: standard, superior, premier, and suite. The superior rooms are inspired by Hakata culture, as well as the Naka River. The premier rooms come with separate living and sleeping areas; the AOI suite, in particular, has a raised living room that’s lined with tatami mats. This room sleeps two; but if you have three or more people (up to five), futons will be provided by the hotel.
#KlookTip: One of our favourite things to do in Japan is to visit the amazing convenience stores. You’ll find a Family Mart and Lawson close by, which are both just a one-minute walk from the hotel. There’s also a Don Quijote store just three minutes away!
If you stay in a room on the 11th and 12th ‘superior’ floors, ladies will even receive free amenities like face wash and lotion. Meals-wise, the hotel has two fantastic concept restaurants. The first is Charcoal Grill Keyaki which, true to its name, grills ingredients from Kyushu over a smoking charcoal grill. Ito No Akari, on the other hand, churns out breakfast that revolves around the appreciation of Itoshima’s nature and ingredients.

The Royal Park Canvas Fukuoka Nakasu is gorgeous. We mean, just look at it! Aesthetic and trendy, the hotel wows at first look. Inspired by the nature of Kyushu, it’s located by the river — offering a tranquil retreat from the city’s bustle.
The rooms are located on regular and sky floors, and are all decorated with gorgeous nature murals. The crowning factor is the large window panels, which let in plenty of natural light. Have a cuppa at the Canvas Lounge’s outdoor terrace that overlooks the Hakata River, sip a cocktail at Bar Komorebi, and indulge in a soak at the public bath. Our favourite is the rooftop garden, which is themed after the forests of Kyushu.
#KlookTip: Royal Park Canvas regularly organises a series of ‘encounters’, such as events that bring the hotel’s guests together. Upon arrival, simply give the reception staff a shout to find out what’s in the line-up.

The rooms, by comparison, are sadly not dinosaur-themed. However, the hotel more than makes up for it with complimentary snacks from 10am to 6pm daily, plus free alcoholic drinks in the evening.
