    Kyoto's Kiyomizu-dera Temple is open for a special Autumn light-up this November

    Heading to Japan (specifically Kyoto) this Autumn? Here's a special must-do to add to your itinerary - a seasonal night viewing light-up at Kyoto's famed Kiyomizu-dera Temple!

    Kiyomizu-dera Temple, one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks, is celebrated for its stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city. Originally founded in 778, this UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its grand wooden stage, which offers sensational panoramic views of cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant maple leaves in autumn.
    The temple has special seasonal night light-ups in Summer, Spring and Autumn. This November, it will also be having a special night viewing light-up event, so that you can appreciate its beauty long after sunset.

    When is the Autumn Light-Up for Kiyomizu-dera Temple?

    The special night viewing light-up will happen from 18 - 30 November 2024.
    The temple is usually open from 6am to 6pm. However for this event, the opening hours will be extended until 9.30pm (last entry 9pm).

    The fall colors at Kiyomizu-dera are stunning by day, but here’s a fresh way to experience their beauty! Wander the temple grounds after dark to take in the vibrant autumn hues from a whole new perspective.

    Besides the night-time illuminations of the temple, the adjacent Jojuin Garden (which only opens a few times a year), will also be open to the public.

    Jojuin Garden is famous for its 'Moon Garden' which has a central pond that reflects the moon, enthralling visitors.

    In addition to the illumination across the temple grounds and Jojuin Garden, Kiyozumi-dera will shine a blue beam of light to symbolise the compassion of Kannon, the goddess of mercy enshrined at the temple. 

    How Much to Enter Kiyomizu-Dera Temple for Night Viewing Event?

    There is a general admission fee of ¥600 for adults and ¥300 for junior high and elementary school students.
