How to Get to Nusa Penida

One of the main ways to get to Nusa Penida is by boat. Now, whether you prefer a speedboat, a public ferry, or a private tour boat is up to you. Some of the things you have to consider

before choosing your ride are your budget, the duration of the boat trip, and where in Bali you’ll be departing from.

By fast boat or speedboat

The fastest and most popular way to get to Nusa Penida is via fast boats or speedboats. Quite a few different speedboat companies operate the route from Sanur, Kusamba, and Padang Bai on the mainland so you’ll have a lot of options to choose from.

Some of these fast boat companies include Axe Stone Fast Cruise, Gili Getaway, Angel Billabong Fast Cruise, Semabu Hills, and The Angkal. They all run trips to and from Nusa Penida daily, with boats leaving at various times throughout the day. Tickets do sell out quickly

By public ferry or RORO

Besides the speedboats, taking the roll-on roll-off (RORO) ferry to Nusa Penida is a solid option too! The public ferry service runs daily at 10 am and 2 pm (except on Sundays when only the 10 am ferry operates) from Padang Bai Port. Usually, the boat rides take between 30-60 minutes.

When heading to Nusa Penida, remember that there can sometimes be a wait at the ports, up to an hour or so, depending on the sea conditions that day. You'll want to be prepared for the possibility of some delays or even cancellations if the weather is really bad.

But the nice thing about ferries is that they’re cheaper than booking a speedboat ticket. And you're even allowed to bring a scooter or motorbike with you onboard. So if you're planning to explore Nusa Penida by bike, the ferry might be the way to go.

This hidden Hindu temple is situated in one of the largest caves on the Northeastern side of the island. It’s a sacred site that gives visitors a chance to see local customs and spiritual spaces.

Be prepared to get a little workout in since you’ll have to climb 100 winding steps to reach the temple cave, which is nestled halfway up a hill.
