How to Find Sustainable Travel Experiences on Klook
Increasingly travellers are seeking more sustainable experiences, looking to contribute to the places they visit and the people they meet, and to make a positive impact. Tourism truly can be a force for good but it’s up to each of us to start travelling more responsibly.
However, it can often be tricky to know whether a tour or experience is truly as green as they say they are. That’s why we’ve introduced the “Certified Sustainable Partner” badge, making it easy for you to find sustainable travel options and to make more informed choices when planning a trip with Klook.
Experiences on Klook that are eligible for the badge must be certified by a third-party certification. That way, we can be sure that every merchant is living up to their green claims.
Certifications that we accept include those certified by a body accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) against the GSTC’s standards, as well as B Corp Certification, and PADI Eco Centers for dive and snorkel experiences.
You can now discover and book over 200 certified sustainable experiences on Klook, with many more coming soon! Check out some of the sustainability pioneers leading the way:
TripGuru, Thailand (GSTC Certified)
TripGuru offers small group excursions guided by locals in destinations across Asia. All their tours in Thailand are certified against Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria and independently audited by a third-party certification body.
You can embark on some of the most popular tours and experiences across Thailand, knowing that you’re supporting local communities, avoiding single-use plastics, protecting natural habitats, and helping local guides to get trained. They even offset the carbon footprint of each visitor’s booking.
While experiences in Thailand are the first to be certified, other destinations are closely following suit.
The Habitat Penang Hill, Malaysia (B Corp Certification)
Another highly respected global certification is B Corp. The B Corp Certification is achieved by companies that demonstrate proof of being socially and environmentally impactful. While B Corp is open to almost all types of business, it remains relevant for certain tourism experiences too.
The Habitat Penang Hill is a great example of this. Located in northern Malaysia, in the rainforests of Penang Island, the attraction aims to provide hands-on education and tangible experiences that promote the conservation and preservation of natural habitats.
Admire the views from the highest accessible platform on Penang Hill or walk amongst the rainforest on the canopy walk, spot some 2,500 species that call the rainforest home, and even get the sleepover of a lifetime with their overnight experiences. You’re sure to have a new appreciation for nature and conservation at this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
PADI Diving Experiences, Worldwide (PADI Eco Center)
For divers and other ocean lovers, it’s clear to see the impact of human activity is already starting to take its toll on our oceans. You might have heard about concerns around coral bleaching, the millions of tons of plastic in our oceans, or many types of marine life nearing extinction.
These are imminent threats and something that one of the world’s most renowned diving organizations is doing its part to put a stop to.
PADI Eco Centers demonstrate an exemplary level of environmental best practices. They focus on staff education, reducing the environmental footprint of operations, and embedding sustainability as a core value. They must also follow guidelines from the Reef-World Foundation’s Green Fins Initiative and be a member of the Adopt the Blue Foundation.
If you’re looking to book a diving or snorkeling experience on Klook, be sure to prioritize those with a “Certified Sustainable Partner” badge, this highlights those that are PADI Eco Centers.
We believe that traveling responsibly creates even more moments of joy for our customers, but it’s up to all of us to take that extra step to seek out the most sustainable tour options. We hope that Klook’s “Certified Sustainable Partner” badge can be that extra nudge in the right direction.
