When Will the New Areas Be Open?
The new exhibitions in the teamLab Planets expansion is slated to open on 22 January 2025.
What to Expect at teamLab Planets New Expansion?
The new expansion is touted to expand the museum's entire space by 1.5 times with three new interactive art spaces - Athletics Forest, Catch and Collect Extinct Forest, and Learn! Future Park - which will be home to more than ten immersive artworks, including a new Sketch Factory, where visitors can take home original products (pin badges, hand towels, T-shirts, tote bags, paper crafts) customised with the pictures they've created in the art space. In addition, the outdoor space will also be extensively renovated.
Athletics Forest
At Athletics Forest, guests can enjoy art by moving their body, from jumping and running to even balancing on obstacles.
Caterpillar House's High-Speed Rotating Bouncing Ball
High-Speed Spinning Bouncing Ball is a room full of spinning spheres - approach one and it'll stop, allowing you to step (and bounce!) on it!
Multi-Jumping Universe
Multi-Jumping features an expandable floor that you can jump on. Test how high you can fly!
Irotoridori's aerial climbing
Aerial Climbing is a space where poles suspended by ropes float three-dimensionally in the air. See if you can use the poles to move around - try not to fall!
Stepping stones for balance in the invisible world
The Balance Stepping Stones are stepping stones that change interactively when someone steps on them, emitting a sound and affecting the space. Psst...the stones may or may not sway when stepped on!
Graffiti Nature of the Upside-Down World, Red List
Draw your favourite creature on paper and watch it come to life in this bowl-shaped world that resembles an upside-down Earth!
Slide and grow! Fruit fields
Zoom down this giant slide and enjoy the digital art of fruits growing and balls flying around.
Catch and Collect Forest
Catch and Collect Forest is a zone where you can use your smartphone to discover, catch, and observe various animals, and create your own collection guide. Happy exploring!
Catch and Collect Extinct Forest - A Whole Year per Year
Interact with 'the real world' and learn more about animals here at the Catch and Collect Extinct Forest.
Use the app to watch animals walking through the space, and shoot an "observation arrow" at an animal. If the "observation arrow" hits an animal, it disappears from the space and enters your smartphone. Information about the animal you observed is collected in the app's illustrated book. You can release your animal by throwing it in a location visible to the app's camera and it will be released and return to that spot. How cool is that?
Learn! The amusement park of the future
This 'amusement park' is where you can enjoy freely creating and collaborating in a world together with others.
Sketch Umwelt
Draw a picture of an airplane, butterfly or hawk on paper. Then, watch your masterpiece appear in 3D and take off into the world before your eyes.
A table inhabited by dwarves
Check out this table that is home to dwarfs. Place your hand on the table and watch them jump, climb and interact with you!
The wall where dwarves live and play
This is a musical wall where the dwarfs live. When you stick stamps of various shapes, such as mushrooms, sheepfolds, and long ice sticks, onto the wall, the stamps appear in the dwarfs' world.
A window into space where dwarves live
This window is a window into the universe where the dwarfs live. Draw lines with a light pen or stamp light to create pictures. Each colour of the line you draw has a mysterious power that affects the dwarfs' world.
Other Art Highlights
Autonomous Abstraction
Autonomous Abstract is a digital art painting comprising many colourful dots, each with its own unique cycle of blinking and hue.
When you stand in the flow, a vortex is born
Create whirlpools at When you stand in the flow, a vortex is born. As people climb against the current, whirlpools are created behind them.
Sketch Factory
The new Sketch Factory is where visitors can create products from their drawings and take them home!
Visitors can order their drawings in Upside-Down Graffiti Nature or Sketch Umwelt at the Sketch Factory, and have them printed and made into a pin badge, hand towel, T-shirt, tote bag, or paper craft. This makes for the cutest souvenir, don't you think?
