Things to do in Shiga Kogen

The Best Day! From the moment I booked it was seamless. Lots of communication made it easy to know where to meet and what to expect. Our driver and Guide Endo were amazing!! We were able to hire some snow gear on the day which made it so easy for a day trip to the snow without the hassle of packing it with us. It was also extremely affordable. We hired two snow jackets and four pairs of snow boots for only $30 Aud. We could also continue to use the boots for the Monkey Park. The included lunch was great value for money and kept us full , there was also a variety to choose from. The kids were very happy too which made it easy (ages 8 and 10). There was plenty to do and lots of time to explore and play around in the snow. The monkey park was a beautiful walk but I highly recommend buying snow spikes for your shoes as suggested by our guide. Ypu can buy these on the day. It was a lifesaver as we easily navigated the long walk in slippery snow with ease, we saw many people struggle. They were affordable at $10 Aud each pair. The tour is definitely worth the money and won’t disappoint!!!

we absolutely loved our whole experience from our departure from Shinjuku with Midori, and the bus drivers was a whole experience, and they were so lovely. Going to see the snow monkeys was an absolute pleasure. We loved every second of it, especially being from a tropical country where we don’t see snow. we loved every moment we got to have in Nagano

Very good tour, convenient pickup and drop off location. The guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting information with us. The ride was comfortable with sufficient rest stops. The time given at the rest stops was sufficient, as was the time given to walk from the carpark to the place to see the Snow Monkeys. The walk is not to strenuous for people of average health, but do take note that it can be tough for kids, the elderly and people who have walking difficulties. Good concise tour to see the snow monkeys.

Great experience, highly recommended. Best to go during the winter months. Warm clothing and weatherproof shoes advisable. It can get slippery on the way to the snow monkeys and will take longer than expected to reach if shoes are not right. Everything else was great. Guide was friendly and spoke good English, everything was explained very clearly. Route was good with enough restroom stops along the way and the lunch offered was nice with a local touch. Bus was modern and the drive was safe. I just wished for a little more time with the snow monkeys as I took longer than expected to get there, but that might have been on me and my pace. Great value for money as well.

The two drivers drove very safely and made sure to get everyone to where we needed to be on time. Our tour guide and her assistant were also very kind and made sure we kept our time properly. The snow monkies were adorable and plentiful, we were lucky to see them in the onsets and out and about near the river. The sukiyaki lunch was okay, bring plenty of snacks and drinks for the long road trip. We did not bring shoe clamps and did not end up renting them from the tour group or from the shop at the snow monkey park, but they are available for people to rent/buy if needed. The trek from the parking lot to the snow monkey location depends on personal fitness, but averaged about 35-40 minutes for most of our group.
