Ok let's be real. Wine is lovely. But - it is also confusing, there is so much to know about it if you want to order like a pro instead of simply asking for ‘the biggest glass you have’ or ordering the second cheapest on the wine menu... (hint: everyone knows this and the menu is designed accordingly).
So, let me tell you about my virtual wine tasting experience…
My group of friends and I were looking for something to do during lockdown that broke from the horrors of homeschooling, baking banana bread and god forbid… more zoom quizzes. I knew we had virtual wine tastings on Klook (and I could use my staff discount) so I suggested this as an idea and it was well received … after all its drinking wine for educational purposes?!
I have to be honest, I was a little uneasy about the whole thing. I LOVE wine but i’m not knowledgeable, i’ll usually aim for a bottle that’s around £6 reduced from around £10. The thought of joining a class and bearing my novice knowledge for all to see didn’t sit well with me.
But hey, that's what these experiences are for right? And it promises to be fun.
Klook offers a great range of virtual wine experiences (I would say that) that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own sofa (trousers optional). We chose a group class with 6 wines delivered to the house prior, the rest of our group also booked the same slot so we would all be in the same class together.
The wine turned up without a hitch, well packaged and the delivery notices kept us in the loop on its progress. Top tip - try and leave about 7 days to ensure there is no delivery stress prior to the virtual wine experience.
The experience only had a couple of other people who we didn’t know, it was pretty intimate and I was soon very at ease thanks to the great host, engaging subject and most likely the couple of ‘pre wines’. My wife who is usually more of a ‘gin gal’ also really enjoyed it as she was able to ask lots of general wine questions without any judgement from the professional!
We’d agreed to have a side chat on the go during the experience and meet up afterwards on a Zoom to finish the wine. In truth we were so engaged in the session that very little got said during and the meet up after was a lot of fun as we shared our new found expertise.
I’m sure I don’t quite have the refined pallet or ‘nose’ really needed to sense the bouquets but a lot of fun nevertheless. So much so, I've booked onto my next virtual tasting, this time meeting the Wine Maker ‘Kam Zadeh’. I’ll let you know how I get on.
