1. Mipig Cafe
Have you ever heard of micropigs? They’re tiny and cuddly, and you can snuggle up with them at Mipig Cafe, a cosy establishment in scenic Meguro!
Slide on some comfy slippers and get cosy with a blanket as you pet the friendly pigs. You can also grab a drink or two here, and unwind with a tiny pig or two by your side.

2. Penguin Dining Cafe & Bar
Housed in Kichijōji, a dreamy district with the Ghibli Museum, the stunning Inokashira Park and more to see, Penguin Dining Cafe & Bar is where you’ll find adorable penguins.
Watch them glide into the water and waddle to their own houses, and you can feed them too! The desserts here are penguin-themed, with slushies shaped like penguins and penguin waffles available.

3. Tokyo Snake Centre
Apart from fashion boutiques and trendy cafes, Harajuku is also home to Tokyo’s only snake cafe, the Tokyo Snake Centre. If you’re keen to get up close with snakes, you’ll want to make a stop here.
You’ll get a snake (in a glass case) to keep you company as you dig into delicious curry rice and refreshing drinks. For an extra fee, you can even get to pet the snakes!

4. Cafe Hoot Hoot
Hoot hoot! That’s right, the owls have landed in Shibuya, the heart of Tokyo, where you’ll find shopping, entertainment, and the adorable Cafe HOOT HOOT. All kinds of owls have made the cafe their home - such as the inquisitive tawny owl Mori-chan and the playful Eurasian Eagle Owl Yu-Kun.
The cafe’s owls have distinct personalities and are affectionately named, and they’re friendly too! Drinks are included in the entrance fee, and you can pay an additional price to feed the owls.

Ikemofu Animal Room Experience is a dedicated animal experience space with a variety of animals (think otters, sugar gliders, and more cute critters) you can play and interact with! No eating or drinking is allowed on the premises, so make sure you grab a bite before you visit.

Think hedgehogs are adorable and always wondered what these creatures are like in person? Just two minutes from Shibuya Station is Chiku-Chiku Cafe, where cute hedgehogs live in custom-made dollhouses.
Meet hedgehogs playing around in intricately designed tiny gardens that you can feed and pet too! While you can’t take the hedgehogs home, feel free to bring back a hedgehog plushie souvenir to commemorate your time here!

Shiba Inus are absolutely the cutest, and here's where you can now get up close with tiny Shiba Inus (or Mameshiba) in person at the Mameshiba Cafe.
The extra-friendly Mameshibas are always happy to snuggle up to you for some cuddles, and you can also watch them get up to their hilarious antics. Apart from the cute Japanese doggos, the cafe is decorated tatami-style, which adds to the Japanese charm of the place.

After visiting Meiji Jingu, one of the most famous shrines in Japan dedicated to the Meiji Emperor and Empress, how about moving over to spend the afternoon in Harajuku’s Owl Village Cafe? In Japan, owls are said to bring wisdom and fortune - and here's where you can meet 16 owls in the cafe.

9. Harajuku Kawaii Zoo Land
To describe Harajuku Kawaii Zoo Land in one word, it would be kawaii. With cutesy IG-worthy pastel-pink interior and soft lighting, it might not come across as an animal experience at first glance. Take a closer look and you'll then find the grounds are home to fennec foxes, hamsters, capybaras, and even otters.
You can pet and interact with the animals, and while the cafe does not serve food, you can bring your own. There’s also a cute souvenir shop at the end with plushies of the attraction’s animals, and gachapon machines!

10. Hachu Cafe
Slither up next to snakes, bearded dragons, and the king of reptiles at Hachu Cafe for a unique experience. Located in Musahino, the cafe is nestled in a corner just minutes from Kichijoji Station.
The cafe serves as a teahouse, and you’ll be able to enjoy a soothing cup of tea while accompanied by a reptile in an enclosure. There’s no cover charge or time limit, so you can stay as long as you want - as long as you order a drink.

11. Kotori Cafe
If you’re a fan of birds, meet these colourful avian friends at Kotori Cafe, where parrots and cockatoos will greet you with their birdsong. You can pet the birds and feed them, as well as snack on bird-themed desserts, making it a unique dessert spot and animal cafe to visit! You’ll have to order a drink in place of a cover charge, but their drinks are pretty affordably priced.

A bright and vibrant petting zoo in Harajuku, Harry Harajuku Terrace is the place to go if you want to pet otters, hold adorable hedgehogs and get up close with chinchillas.

Nestled in an antique house, you can get a hearty set meal to go with the experience. It’s certainly a unique spot to visit if you’ve got some time to kill!

What do you get in a cafe with both capybaras and cats? Cuteness overload! At Capyneko Cafe, you’ll be welcomed by both purring cats and capybaras looking for someone to pet them.
You’ll need a reservation to enter – just book a reservation online and you’re good to go! Some of the cats at the cafe are adoptable too, so if you’re looking to give a feline a furr-ever home, just speak to the friendly staff.

A rustic animal cafe with branches across Japan, Moff Animal Cafe at the Hachioji outlet has cats, birds, owls, and more animals you can meet. It’s safe even for the kids to pet the animals, making it a family-friendly pet cafe to put on your list!
You can even stay as long as you want during off-peak times and curl up next to the animals, though you have to get a drink on top of the entrance fee.

16. Cat Cafe Mocha
While most cafes on this list charge for long periods of time, Cat Cafe Mocha allows more flexibility. You just have to pay in ten-minute blocks, and you can pet the kawaii kitties.

Our first stop is Kichijōji Petit Mura, a cat-themed park that looks like something out of a Ghibli movie with whimsical larger-than-life buildings and a cat fountain! Nestled within the park is Temari No Oshiro Cat Cafe, where you can play with kawaii kitties that will snuggle up to you.
The unique cafe is also themed like a fairyland, with cats resting on curved alcoves and rustic trees for the cats to jump on. As you enjoy your time with the cats, feel free to tuck into their hearty signature beef stew along with snacks and drinks!
