When is the Australian Open?
The 2022 dates for the Australian Open are from Monday, January 17 until Sunday, January 30.

You can buy Australian Open tickets from the official tournament website. You can also purchase seats in person at the Ticketing Box Office or by calling Ticketmaster at 1300 308 999.
What are the COVID measures at the Australian Open?
Before entry to the venue and to specific hospitality areas, all visitors aged 12 years and 2 months will be asked to show their COVID-19 vaccination certificate or proof of a valid medical exemption. To make sure things go smoothly during your visit, you can link your COVID-19 digital certificate to the Service Victoria app.
There will also be multiple sanitiser stations around the National Tennis Centre at Melbourne Park and reminders to keep a distance of 1.5 metres.
The Aussie Open also provides each ticket with COVID-19 Booking Protection. This means that you will be fully refunded (or get credit, depending on your choice) in case of COVID-19 related disruptions like border closures, lockdowns, and more.
How much is the prize money at the Australian Open?
As of writing (6 December 2021), the Australian Open prize money has not yet been announced for the 2022 tournament. But we can guess that it won’t be too far off from last year’s total prize money which was a whopping $80 million. Here’s a breakdown of how much each (male and female) tennis player in singles will receive after each round:
Winner: $2.75 m
Runner-up: $1.5 m
Semi-final: $850,000
Quarter-final: $525,000
Round 4: $320,000

When can I see my favourite players in action?
The Australian Open schedule won’t be released until after the draw ceremony which typically takes place a few days before the start of the tournament. Depending on where your favourite player landed on the draw, they may play their first match on Day 1 or Day 2. The exact order of play for each day and each court will be announced in the afternoon of the previous day.
What are other interesting facts about the Australian Open?
The Australian Open, also called the AO or the Happy Slam, is the first Grand Slam tournament in the calendar year of the tennis season! If you can’t make it to the event, you can also watch the matches live on Channel 9.
Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka are the defending champions, while Queenslander Ash Barty, the reigning number 1 player in the women’s field, is set to play to try and win her first slam at home. Fellow Aussie Dylan Alcott, a 15-time slam champion and Paralympic Olympics champion, has announced plans to retire after the 2022 edition of the Aussie Open.
It’s also the first Grand Slam tournament to announce a vaccine requirement for all players.
