With crystal clear waters, colourful coral reefs, and diverse marine life, it’s no surprise that Bali is one of the top diving destinations on the planet!
The island gathers everything an adventurous diver could dream of: vibrant reefs, schools of fish, mysterious sunken shipwrecks, and powerful currents. Whether it’s your first time or 100th-time scuba diving, Bali’s packed with plenty of exquisite dives. Here are five of the best ones:
1. Amed
Best time to dive: May to September
For thousands of years, the thriving marine life around Amed has remained virtually untouched. Today, this underwater world now offers an abundant array of fish and corals unlike anywhere else in the world. The quiet fishing village of Amed, East of Bali, is the site that fuses together all of these, from brilliantly-coloured tropical fishes and sea turtles to reef tip sharks.
Thanks to its light current, divers of all levels—beginner or pro—can enjoy the magnificent scuba dive in Bali at Amed Beach. Swim with the turtles and wander around the waters with a guided scuba diving tour in Bali. With Klook, you can choose between 3 diving locations to plunge into underwater adventures! Choices include Amed Beach, Tulamben, and Padang Bai.
2. Tulamben
Best time to dive: May to October
On the eastern side of Bali, lies Tulamben. A diving spot that attracts even the most seasoned divers, Tulamben is one of the most exciting scuba dives in Bali because of the sunken shipwreck that adorns its waters. The historical USAT Liberty wreck is the diamond of this diving mine. The old cargo ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo in 1942 and survived a volcanic eruption in 1963.
Fast forward to today and Tulamben is one of the easiest wreck dives in the world with the sunken ship laying only 9 metres below the surface. Experienced divers can also venture further down the bows that are crawling with frogfish and pygmy seahorses.
In the meantime, beginners can test out the waters first with a half-day scuba diving experience in Tulamben. This Bali scuba diving tour schools you on the basics as you discover the wrecks and the coral garden nearby.
3. Nusa Lembongan
Best time to dive: July to October
Where the critter hunters do their scuba diving in Bali, Nusa Lembongan abounds withclownfish, striped nudibranchs, manta rays, lionfish, and mola mola (moon fish). Deep dive 40 metres under the Blue Corner for a once-in-a-lifetime chance of swimming along with these rare critters, as well as dolphins to boot!
Though, be warned! Nusa Lembongan has some prettystrong currents, so it’s best to leave this one to the experienced divers.
Klook insider tip: Book a tour with Klook and enjoy up to two open water dives, plus a FREE lunch!
4. Nusa Dua
Best time to visit: July to September
Nusa Dua is one of the premier beaches in Bali, best known for its hotbed of luxe accommodations, swanky resorts, and all-around diving fun! Under its crystal blue waters, Nusa Dua plays host to a vibrant marine life, ranging from reef tip sharks, manta rays, eels, and barracudas down to coral-encrusted ocean bottom.
But the best part yet? You don’t have to stray too far or dive too deep. Within an hour of scuba diving at Nusa Dua, you can meet them all!
5. Padang Bai
Best time to visit: May to October
What’s a trip to Bali without scuba diving at Padang Bai! From shark caves to abandoned shipwrecks, Padang Bai has plenty of stunning sites to choose from. Marvel at the colourful reefs at the Blue Lagoon, or if you’re in the mood for some Pirate of the Caribbean action, head to the Tanjung Jepun shipwreck and hunt down tiny catsharks swimming through its galleys.
To reach the wreck, you’ll need to take a 15-minute boat ride from Padang Bai. After which, you can plunge right into the cool waters! Our Klook tour offers two open dives with free boat transfers for newbies and pro-divers.
