Good news: Batangas now allows recreational diving again
Calling all divers and marine enthusiasts! The province of Batangas has re-opened its dive sites to tourists from General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) areas.
Although the province remains under GCQ, the decision was made by the Department of Tourism and Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD) in October 2020 as a way to revive the city’s tourism industry. This is good news for Batangas which boasts some of the Philippines’ best dive sites, thanks to its rich marine biodiversity.
Diving establishments across Batangas with DOT and PCSSD accreditation are now reopening their doors for recreational diving. Resorts without the necessary permits are encouraged to register at the free and online DOT-accreditation platform—accreditation.tourism.gov.ph—provided they enforce basic safety regulations to all guests.
Diving in the New Normal
In light of COVID-19, the DOT has released Health and Safety Guidelines Governing the Operations of Dive Establishments in the New Normal. Under these measures, all divers are required to bring their own diving equipment. When not diving, guests are expected to practice social distancing, wear protective face masks, and practice basic sanitation.
The DOT has also created a digital contact tracing app for the town of Mabini, Batangas to efficiently trace tourists, including prospective divers, visiting the area.
While diving may be permitted for most guess coming from GCQ and MGCQ areas, the activity remains off-limits to tourists who are immunocompromised or pregnant. Age limits have been removed for this activity in Batangas.
How to Get There
If you’re all set and ready, grab your diving gear, and start planning your trip to Batangas.
Luckily for Metro Manila residents, the province is only a 2-3 hour drive away from the city making it a convenient, go-to diving destination.
To get to Batangas, visitors are no longer required to present a Travel Pass. Instead, visitors only need to fill out health declaration forms, register under digital contact tracing apps (when applicable), present a negative swab test result, and observe proper distancing inside their vehicles.
Before heading off to Batangas, it’s best to take check with your preferred diving site administration for any unique requirements and restrictions.
