2. The Baboon House
Retreat into The Baboon House, a quaint and tranquil restaurant in Melaka situated in a renovated Peranakan shophouse, where they cook up some of the best gourmet burgers that we've ever tried, with their signature homemade chicken, beef or pork patties. Filled with greenery and antiques, this unique cafe is also complete with spaces perfect for you to unwind at or take a couple of Instagram shots. It's also pet-friendly too!

3. Calanthe Art Cafe
There's no shortage of unique cafes in Melaka and Calanthe Art Cafe is definitely one that's not short on personality. Located in a narrow alley just off Jonker Street, what we love about the cafe is its homey atmosphere and its interior fully furnished with a mish-mash of eclectic trinkets and colourful artwork. It's a porky good time at Locahouz, a cafe in Melaka that specialise in their homemade pork dishes and signature pumpkin bao. Housed in a refurbished shop lot, this cafe offers a pleasant and cosy environment for you to dine at, with a tranquil open-air courtyard, spacious seating arrangements and vintage furnishings. Locahauz also whips up some of the prettiest drinks we've ever seen before, and the best part is that they taste as good as they look!

7. Botanist Cafe
Previously known as Veggie Planet, Botanist Cafe is hands down the best vegetarian restaurant we've ever tried in Melaka (and maybe even in the whole of Malaysia!). The plant-based cafe takes pride in their menu that consists of healthy, yet delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes, using only fresh and natural ingredients. We also love how cosy the restaurant is - dine in a tranquil space amidst potted plants and calm music.

8. The Old Mark Cafe
If you've got a sweet tooth, we totally recommend heading to The Old Mark Cafe! Situated in the newer side of town, this minimalist and modern cafe serves a wholesome variety of fusion comfort food and good coffee, but most importantly, their desserts are superb. Don't miss out on their signature souffle pancakes that they're most well-known for (so soft and fluffy!), as well as their waffles and panna cotta.

9. Ee Ji Ban Chicken Rice Ball
Your Melaka trip wouldn't be complete without enjoying a meal of the city's iconic chicken rice balls! They're not just fun to eat, but taste pretty darn good as well. Chicken rice balls can be found everywhere across Melaka, but a popular crowd favourite and one of our top recommendations would be Ee Ji Ban. Aside from the famous chicken rice, they also serve other Nyonya dishes like sambal petai, cincalok omelette, asam pedas and more.

Another must-visit along Jonker Street is The Stolen Cup, a cosy local cafe. With a rustic interior filled with wooden tables and potted plants, it's the perfect space to temporarily escape the heat and rest your legs. The cafe serves up a great range of beverages, pastries (their salted egg yolk croissant is pretty good!), desserts, and mains - but the specialty on the list is definitely the Signature Gula Melaka Latte.

Another specialty you should not miss out on when in Melaka is Nyonya cuisine and Cottage Spices Nyonya Restaurant is one of the best places you can find some delicious, no-frills, authentic peranakan food. All dishes at this humble eatery are home cooked with love, and with 16 years of experience under their belt, you can expect only the best of Nyonya food from them! In case you're unsure what to order, we'd recommend giving their sotong lemak nenas, otak-otak, cendol and assam pedas fish a try!

Hidden along Jalan Kampung Kuli, Alley No. 5 may take a little effort to locate but once you do, you'll discover this gem that offers a quick bite and a welcome rest from the day’s heat. Also known as 'wu hao', this quaint cafe impresses thanks to its great coffee and tantalising desserts, laidback atmosphere as well as its vintage yet minimal decor. Do try out their homemade cheesecakes and latte while you're here. Fun fact: this quaint cafe also transforms into a hidden bar at night!
