Travelers who wish to visit Thailand but are either not eligible for the TEST & GO travel scheme or the Thailand Sandbox program can instead travel into the country through the Alternative Quarantine (AQ) program. You can participate in the AQ program and visit Thailand easily by following these steps:
- Procure a visa, a Thailand Pass QR, proof of vaccination, and COVID-19 insurance with minimum coverage of USD50,000.
- Book your own quarantine accommodations at a government-certified AQ hotel.
- Receive a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to your flight. (IMPORTANT NOTE: Starting 1 Apr 2022, visitors will no longer be required to present a pre-flight negative RT-PCR Test but they will still have to go through the required tests of the entry program they're using to enter the country. On 1 May 2022, the required test you'll have to take upon arrival will be switched from RT-PCR to Antigen Test Kit (ATK) and it will be conducted by a professional)
- Quarantine at least 7 to 10 days (exact duration varies depending on your vaccination status) after arrival and take 2 RT-PCR tests on specified days (Day of arrival and Day 8 or 9 of your stay).
As you’ll be paying for your own quarantine and staying at your chosen AQ hotel for a number of days, it is important that you choose a hotel that fits your budget and your needs to make those quarantine days pass by faster. And with so many different options and packages available across the country, it can be difficult to choose where to stay during your quarantine period. That’s why we’ve come up with a handy list of recommended hotels across the country that you can use while planning your trip to Thailand!
What Does an AQ Package Include?
Inclusions and costs of AQ packages vary from one hotel to another, but they will usually include the following:
- 7-night stay with 3 meals a day
- Free WiFi
- Private car transfer from the airport
