Nowadays, travel isn’t as straightforward as it was before, especially since Vietnam’s borders have been closed for the last couple of years. That’s why we’ve summarized all the information you need to know below so you can start making plans. Bon voyage!
Who will be allowed to travel to Vietnam?
Vaccinated travelers aged 12+, as well as those who recovered from COVID-19 within the past 6 months, can travel to Vietnam as long as they have a valid visa and comply with the specified COVID-19 travel requirements. You are no longer required to book group tours to travel to Vietnam.
Unvaccinated travelers cannot yet visit Vietnam under the current travel restrictions.
What type of visa do I need to travel to Vietnam?
Visa requirements vary depending on country of origin and length of stay. To check if you qualify for a visa exemption or are required to apply for a visa prior to your trip, visit the Official Tourism Website of Vietnam.
How do I apply for a Vietnamese visa?
If you do not qualify for a visa exemption, you may apply for your visa directly at the Vietnamese Immigration Website. All the information required for your visa application is readily-available on the website.
What do I need to travel to Vietnam?
1a. Proof of Vaccination: Visitors aged 12+ must show proof of vaccination, wherein the last dose must have been given at least 14 days before your visit but not more than six months ago. If you have completed your full dose more than six months ago, you must first get a booster shot before you can visit Vietnam.
1b. Proof of Recovery: Visitors aged 12+ who have contracted and recovered from COVID within the last six months can instead present a proof or recovery issued by a competent authority from the country of treatment.
2. Medical/Travel Insurance with COVID-19 Coverage: Each traveler must have insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment, with a minimum liability of USD 10,000.
3. Travel Visa: Vietnam will apply the same visa policy from before it closed its borders, with visa exemptions available to select countries depending on the length of stay. If you do not qualify for a visa exemption, you must apply for a tourist visa prior to your visit.
4. Health Monitoring App: You must download the PC-COVID app and stay connected during your visit.
Note: Requirements vary depending on how you reach Vietnam - arriving by sea or land may subject you to additional requirements.
Do I still need to quarantine after my arrival?
No. Quarantine after arrival in Vietnam is no longer required.
What do I do if I test positive for COVID-19 after my arrival?
If you are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms on arrival, you are required to get tested at the international border gate.
If you test positive after your arrival, you will be quarantined at your accommodation and be treated according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
You must also monitor your health within 14 days from arrival. If you exhibit any symptoms or test positive at any time during your stay, please report it immediately and comply with the regulations.
