More reasons to add Thailand to your bucket list.
Thailand is an amazing country with so much to offer. From its natural beauty to its intricate temples, there is a Thailand tourist spot fit for every traveler. And as you explore the country, you’ll find there are many unexpected and unique attractions to enjoy as well.
Here are just a few of the most out-of-the-ordinary things you can see in the “Land of Smiles.”
1. Talay Bua Daeng (Red Lotus Lake)
Hop on a boat ride to take in the beautiful pink water lilies and all their glory. Hidden in the northeastern province of Udon Thani, the lake is a Thailand tourist spot that comes to life around late November or early December until February. It’s no wonder this Thailand destination is popular for couples during Valentine’s Day.
Klook tip: The best time to observe the flowers is before noon because the blooms start closing once it gets too hot out.

Opening Hours: 4am – 6pm (Daily)
2. Wat Rong Khun (White Temple)
While we’re used to visiting temples that are bold and colorful, Wat Rong Khun is the contrary. As its name suggests, the White Temple outside of Chiang Ria is distinguished by its lack of color and the use of glass fragments. The remarkable architecture can be credited to Thai visual artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and is said to represent the purity and teachings of Buddha.
Wat Rong Khun

3. Phaya Khan Khak Museum (Giant Toad)
Aside from elephant and dragon figures, who would’ve thought we’d come across a giant toad at this Thailand destination? Located at Yasothon is this five-story attraction that houses a museum and an observation deck. Climb up to the mouth for panoramic views of the Lam Thuan Reservoir and roam around the rest of the structure to learn more about amphibians and the legend of Phaya Khankhak (Giant Toad) and Phaya Thaen (God of Isan).

4. Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Phrachomklao Rachanusorn (Temple of the Floating Pagodas)
We know the name is a mouthful, but this Thailand destination in Lampong is a must-visit for its stunning views. From afar, the temples look like giant bells atop mountains, when in reality it is a Buddhist pilgrimage site that was constructed by devoted monks. On your way up, keep your eyes peeled for the supposed Buddha footprint and appreciate the glistening stupas.

5. Wat Mae Kaet Noi (Temple of Hell)
If you’re looking for something thrilling to add to your itinerary, consider this obscure Thailand tourist spot. Wat Mae Kaet Noi is not your typical temple – instead of peaceful Buddha statues, you’ll be greeted by sculptures depicting tortured people. The objective is to show what Buddha Hell could possibly be like, and hopefully enlighten people to abide by the spiritual leader’s teachings. Experience hell on earth at this Thailand destination!
Wat Mae Kaet Noi
Address: Highway 1001, Tambon Pa Phai, Amphoe San Sai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50210, Thailand
Opening Hours: 8am – 6pm (Daily)
6. Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant
Who would have thought that we’d ever hear the words “cabbage” and “condoms” used in the same sentence? Laugh all you want, but the concept behind this latex-themed restaurant is actually pretty genius. The name instantly catches people’s attention, enticing them to enter the restaurant and they get to promote sex education. It’s hardly surprising that this is now a popular Thailand destination.

7. Phra Nang Cave (Princess Cave)
There’s no doubt that Phra Nang Beach is a gorgeous Thailand destination. The white sand and crystal-clear waters in Krabi are something to be admired, but this Thailand tourist spot is also popular for another reason. Locals make phallic-shaped offerings called lingams to Phra Nang (a.k.a. the Princess Goddess) to request safe passage at sea, so don’t be surprised if you encounter a penis shrine.
Phra Nang Cave
Address: Phra Nang Beach, Phela, 81120, Thailand
Opening Hours: Open 24 hours
8. Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain)
Buddhism being the most widespread religion in Thailand, it only makes sense that they have a Buddha Mountain. Laser-etched against the mountain of Khao Chi Chan is a 130-meter tall Buddha figure that commemorates King Rama IX’s Golden Jubilee. It was the then Supreme Patriarch that proposed the engraving of this giant image to prevent the marble mountain from being demolished. The structure was filled with gold as finishing touches, which adds to the allure of this Thailand destination.
