How to rent a car in Jeju
Booking a Jeju car rental is easier than you think. All you have to do is prepare your documents, book a car on Klook, and pick up your car on the designated date and time! Not is it only affordable, but it is also the most convenient way to explore Jeju.
Make sure to prepare your credit card, driving license, and passport, as well as your international driving permit, which is required for any car rental in Korea. Then, you're all set for your Jeju road trip!
#KlookTip: Always book beforehand so your car will be ready as soon as you land in Jeju! Once you arrive at the airport, all you have to do is find the sign that says 'Rental Car Shuttles', and you can board a bus or shuttle that will take you to where you can pick up your car.
Tips for driving a car in Jeju
Driving is probably the best way to explore the beautiful Jeju island! Here are some top tips on how to have an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
- Unlike in Singapore, you'll be driving with the left-hand drive in Jeju. So take some time to familiarise yourself and go slow initially.
- Make sure that your rented GPS is in English or a language you are comfortable with.
- The GPS in Jeju works best when you enter the phone number of your destination, so it is always good to prepare those and have them handy for the day's drive.
- Make sure to have mobile data for the best real-time navigation experience. You can get your 4G SIM card or Wifi egg on Klook.
- Google Maps does not work in Korea - you will need to download Naver Map or Kakao Map as an alternative navigation app.
- Parking is easily available and generally free around Jeju. However, there may be a small fee at certain attractions and popular destinations. So do have some small change available.
Places to include in your road trip around Jeju!
East of Jeju
A good place to start your road trip on Jeju Island is at its eastern side, which is blessed with vast beaches, volcanic rock formations, and other natural wonders - with a few modern marvels like Aqua Planet and Bunker de Lumières, too! With your Jeju car rental, here’s the best way to get to all the must-visit stops:
1. Hamdeok Seoubong Beach
The first East Jeju attraction you should stop by is Hamdeok Seoubong Beach, where you can enjoy the stretch of white sand and feel the cool lapping waves. You can also switch up your beach time by hiking up a volcanic hill at the beach’s edge, called Seoubong Peak, where there are awe-inspiring panoramic views of the beach and Eastern Jeju.
- Address: 525 Johamhaeando-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-728-3989
2. Woljeong-ri
If you drive further along the coast after Hamdeok, you’ll reach a beach lined with cafés and outcrops of black volcanic rock that stand out against the narrow strips of creamy sand. Woljeong-ri Beach is the perfect place to re-energize with your favourite coffee as you wade through the shallow emerald waters.

3. Manjanggul Cave
A UNESCO Natural World Heritage-listed attraction, the Manjanggul Cave (which is not so much of a cave but a huge lava tube that’s part of the Geomunoreum Lava Tube system) is a cannot-miss. Manjanggul boasts the longest lava tube in Asia, stretching 7,400m and maximum height of 25 meters and width of 18 meters.
While the majority of the cave is closed off, tourists can still visit a 1-km section and spot various geographical features such as stalactites, stalagmites and stone pillars.

4. Seongsan Sunrise Peak
The next East Jeju attraction you’ll drive to is one of the island’s most famous destinations: Seongsan Sunrise Peak. You can take a challenging but manageable path up the summit of this 182-meter high volcanic tuff cone, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the eastern part of the island.

- Phone Number: 1833-7001
West of Jeju
After exploring all the wonders of Eastern Jeju, it’s time to craft your West Jeju itinerary. This side of the island has no shortage of beautiful beaches and coastal roads, too. Check out all the cool places you can stop by with your Jeju car rental!
7. Arte Museum
Start your West Jeju itinerary with the Arte Museum, home to 11 large-scale works of art that are complemented by video, sound, and light for an immersive multimedia experience. One of the exhibits includes an 8-meter high waterfall of light that seemingly falls from the ceiling to the floor, and where water appears to splash around your feet.
- Address: 478 Eorimbi-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-799-9009
- Admission: Adults KRW 17,000 (~S$17.60), Children KRW 10,000 (~S$10.40)
8. Aewol Handam Beach
After exploring the light-projected waterfalls and beaches at Arte Museum, you might want to dip your toes in actual lapping waters. Take a drive along the 10-kilometre Aewol Coastal Road on the west coast until you reach Aewol Beach, where you can explore several walking trails with spectacular views of the surrounding ocean.
- Start: Gamundongipgugyocha-ro, Hagwi-2-ri, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
- Finish: Aewol Port, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
9. Hyeopjae Beach
If you drive further down the coast from Aewol Beach, you’ll reach one of Jeju’s most popular beaches: Hyeopjae Beach, famous for its striking contrast of colours from the white sand, cerulean waters, and dark volcanic rocks.
Enjoy a dip in the safe, shallow waters before filling up your famished belly at the nearby restaurants serving Korean food or even pizzas while enjoying the gorgeous views.
- Address: 329-10 Hyeopjae-gil, Hallim-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-728-3981
10. Hallim Park
Just a couple hundred meters from Hyeopjae Beach is Hallim Park, one of Jeju’s longest-standing attractions that tourists still flock to yearly—and for good reason! This masterfully landscaped park is split into nine themed areas, including a bird garden and a recreation of a Jeju folk village. Here, you can breathe in the fresh air as your eyes relax at the sight of the verdant surroundings.
- Address: 300 Hallim-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-796-0001
11. Sinchang Windmill Road
Last but not least, you can drive along Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road, where you’ll spot an offshore wind farm amidst a rocky seaside landscape. You can choose to simply drive by to see windmills or catch them up close by stopping by and strolling along the walking course promenade.
- Address: 1322-1 Sinchang-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
South of Jeju
South of Jeju is where you'll find more of Jeju's natural wonders. They are just aplenty!
12. Yongmeori Coast
Yongmeori Beach is where Sanbangsan Mountain stretches into the ocean - locals say that the mountain looks like a dragon’s head is going underwater. You'll find plenty of natural sandstone stacks in the area that have built up over millions of years.
Take some time to explore the many coastal caves in various shapes and enjoy the majestic seaside scenery - you can also spot the famous haenyeo (female sea divers) who sell their catch around the area.
- Address: 218-10, Sanbang-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-794-2940 (Mt Sanbangsan)
- Admission: [Sanbangsan Mountain & Yongmeori Beach Combined Ticket]: Adults KRW 2,500 (~S$2.60), Children KRW 1,500 (~S$1.55)
13. Jeongbang Waterfall
While there are quite a number of waterfalls around Jeju, Jeongbang Falls is probably one of the more unique ones since it is the only waterfall in Asia to flow directly into the sea. Marvel at the magnificent sight and don’t forget to take some photos too! The rocks nearing the foot of the waterfall can get slippery, so do be careful when snapping your IG-worthy pic.
- Address: 37 Chilsimni-ro214beon-gil, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do
- Phone Number: 064-733-1530
14. Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff
