February is often deemed one of the most romantic months of the year because of Valentine’s Day, but why does love need to be limited to only one month? Love is something worth celebrating all year round and what better way to do it, than in the most magical cities around the world. Here are our top five most romantic hot spots around the world, and the most loved up experiences and romantic things to do in each city.
1. Paris
Of course Paris is on the top of our list, I mean this city has a reputation for being the world's most romantic city. What makes this city the 'city of love' is so much more than just the Eiffel Tower, the stunning scenery and cute cafes. While these play a huge part (and we totally recommend you do all these things), there is more than meets the eye in the city of love!
Couples who love to enjoy a leisurely wine should make their way to this intimate wine and cheese tour or a wine and dinner tasting, set to send your taste buds buzzing. This intimate experience will introduce you to the world of French wine and how they produce some of the best bottles on the planet. You can taste five types of this famed bevvie paired with your choice of cheese or charcuterie.
What better way to mark your love for each other than creating personalised scents? Sounds a little weird we know, but hear us out. There is a real science when it comes to scents and love; with many agreeing that your nose plays a huge part in falling in love. The Fragonard Perfume Workshop in Paris is the perfect way for you and your partner to experiment with your love scent and create memories in this city!
For those looking for a more relaxed romantic experience, then we suggest heading on the Fontainebleau Castle Balloon Ride, or seize every beautiful Parisian moment and customise your own theme with a private photo shoot in Paris; ensuring your romantic memories will never be forgotten.
2. Rome
It’s all in the name. Any city that has the first three letters of romance in its name is bound to be a city full of romantic moments and love. And get this, if you reverse Roma (how the Italian’s say Rome) you get 'Amor’, the Italian word for love. Convinced yet? We are!
From tossing coins together at Trevi Fountain, to treating your Roman lover to a cruise around the Tiber, Rome will not disappoint any couple looking for a romantic getaway to Rome. Take your loved one on a Private VIP Michelin Star Food Tour where you will feast on four delicious artisanal dishes prepared by some of the greatest and acclaimed chefs in the city, or spend the night at the Opera where you will fall in love with the angelic voices and be serenaded with masterpieces of Antonio Vivaldi like “La Traviata”.
One last romantic activity you can’t miss, is a visit to Vatican City and all it has to offer. A must-do in the Vatican is the Sistine Chapel. Everywhere you turn you will be greeted with beauty and detail that has made this chapel so iconic. With high-vaulted ceilings, and the pristine marbled floors, this chapel is like no other; you will fall in love in the centre of it.
3. Venice
Next on the list is another Italian city, Venice. This city is the ideal backdrop to all things love and romance, with it’s stunning sunsets, incredible architecture and timeless canals. If you thought you were already in love, well.... we just escalated things. You and your bae will fall in love all over again as you walk the stone alleys and take in picturesque Saint Mark's Square hand in hand.
If you MUST take the ultimate gooey loved-up image and are looking for the 'romantic kiss' backdrop, it has got to be a Gondola Ride on the Grand Canal. You'll float past all the romantic landmarks and fall deeper in love with this beautiful city, and of course the love of your life.
While you're still on cloud nine, make sure you stop by the Doge's Palace. This masterful pinnacle of Venetian Gothic architecture stands as a symbol of Venice itself, and is widely considered one of the most beautiful structures in the world.
If you’re looking for an escape, take a romantic day trip from Venice. We recommend Murano, Burano and Torcello Islands, just a boat ride away from Venice. These little islands will provide you with a stunning hideaway, amidst vibrant colours of the picturesque homes.
4. New York City
While New York City is typically labelled the city that never sleeps, we affectionately have given this city the name; the city where love never sleeps! I mean there was a reason we all loved Sex in the City and it wasn’t just because of all the fabulous outfits. As Carrie Bradshaw taught us ladies, “women come to New York in search of the two 'L's: Labels & Love”, and we witnessed the highs and lows of her journey throughout the series which made us all yearn for that same type of romantic feel in New York City. ...am I giving away my age here?
From romantic walks around Central Park, or a horse and carriage ride around town, this city is waiting for couples to come and have the holiday of a lifetime. Go up to Top of the Rock at sunset for the most spectacular views and snap some sickly sweet pics with bae with the city in the background and then catch a Broadway show and dinner in the evening. Whatever it is that takes your fancy, the city is bursting with it. It's that simple.
What’s more romantic than a Jazz song? We would argue, nothing! New York is full of incredible jazz bars and clubs, so why not take your loved one on a tour! One of our favourites to check out is the Harlem Jammin Jazz evening tour. This particular tour takes you to Harlem's historic churches, exceptional landmarks, and one of the coolest jazz spots in town.
5. Tokyo
We know, sounds a little out of place. I mean when you typically think of Tokyo, you think of a bustling city and business. In reality though, Tokyo is so much more than its bright lights, nightlife and economics, this incredible city is filled with unique sights and experiences that will leave you brimming with happiness; Tokyo is in the business of love and we’re here to show you why.
Nothing says love than a romantic spa date at an Onsen in Tokyo. Most onsen are gender- segregated, but there are a few around town that aren't - one such is the Oedo-Onsen Monogatari. This is the largest facility in Japan and hosts a variety of natural hot springs surrounded by some of the most beautiful views of nature! It's so relaxing and a totally blissful experience.
And what about Cherry Blossom season!? The city is picture perfect at every turn - the pink blossoms are literally romance in the air. Stroll hand in hand under the swathe of pink for a memory to last a lifetime.
A fun date night while in town is a sushi making class, or head to one of the many Michelin star restaurants or even take a tour of the sake bar scene! Tokyo is kinda perfect for date-night!
