How To Get To Tokyo Disneyland From Shinjuku

Tokyo Disneyland was the first such park to operate outside the United States and sice its opening in 1983, has been a must-see for the most fervent Disney afficinados. Read on to find out everything you need to know about visiting Tokyo Disneyland.

The park operates changeable opening hours, so always check the official calendar directly on the Tokyo Disney website before you set off. There are four categories for ticket holders, with children under the age of 3 admitted free of charge:

Price points vary based on your length of stay, too – you can choose from a 1-day pass, 2-day pass, afternoon pass, evening pass and annual pass. Tickets can be purchased online up to three months before your planned visit, as well as from Tokyo's Disney Store, major travel agencies, and JR Ticket Windows – that's where Japan Rail tickets are sold. Bear in mind that if you opt for e-tickets, you'll need to print them out ahead of time. You can buy tickets at the park, too, but you'll get in faster if you come prepared.

By Train: For an easy and cost-effective trip from Shinjuku to Tokyo Disneyland, consider a JR Pass – that's a special public transport pass designed for foreign visitors. Begin your journey at Shinjuku Station, riding for 15 minutes on the JR Chuo Line to Tokyo Station. There, change to either the JR Musashino Line or JR Keiyo Line and travel onwards to Maihama Station, which will take a further 15 minutes.

Bear in mind that Tokyo Station is a big one, and platforms can be a 10-minute walk from one another. All in all, the journey should take between 40 to 50 minutes, including changes, with all lines running regular trains throughout the day. The entrance to the park is 10 minutes on foot from Maihama Station.

By Shuttle Bus: If you prefer to travel direct, use Klook to book a comfy, convenient shuttle bus transfer. Buses depart in the morning from a number of locations within easy walking distance of Shinjuku Station, including Shinjuku Prince Hotel, Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower and Shinjuku Washington Hotel. The drive time is around an hour, and the bus can accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. You can book a return trip to depart from Disneyland later the same day, or travel one-way if you're staying longer.

By Train: To get from Narita Airport to Tokyo Disneyland, take the high-speed JR Narita Express to Tokyo Station. Trains leave every 30 minutes and take about an hour to get to the city. From there, transfer to the JR Musashino Line or JR Keiyo Line for the final 15-minute ride to Maihama Station.

The whole journey is covered by your JR Pass, and will take under an hour and a half once you board the train at Narita Airport. Alternatively, you can jump on the Tokyo Skyliner Express between the airport and Tokyo Station and shave about 20 minutes off your travel time.

By Bus: Disney Buses are the most direct way to reach Tokyo Disneyland, leaving from all three terminals of Narita Airport. It's worth noting that the last bus departs at 6:10 pm, so make sure you have enough time to clear customs and exit the terminal if you're planning this method of transport. The trip will take around one hour and 15 minutes, depending on traffic.

By Private Transfer: There's also the option to sail right through on a hassle-free journey by booking a Private Narita International Airport Transfer. The service runs around the clock and there are no extra charges if your flight is delayed, so it can be super cost-effective for groups travelling with lots of luggage – not to mention a serious stress-saver.

By Train: From Shibuya Train Station, use your JR Pass to ride the Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station. From there, transfer to the JR Musashino Line or JR Keiyo Line and travel onwards to Maihama Station – the closest station to Disneyland. The whole journey will take around an hour, including the 10-minute walk from Maihama Station to the park entrance.

By Car: By far the fastest route between Shibuya and Tokoyo Disneyland is by car – driving takes only 20 minutes. Tokyo Disneyland runs a paid car park that's open for an hour either side of the park's opening times – keep your eyes peeled for the "Tokyo Disneyland Guest Parking Entrance" sign. A regular passenger vehicle costs ¥2,500 on weekdays and ¥3,000 on weekends and holidays. Pay with cash, Tokyo Disney Resort Gift Cards, or a major debit or credit card, and you can exit and re-enter multiple times in the same day.
