The Sticks Eco-Resort
Tucked away in the lush rainforest of Kuala Kubu Bharu in Hulu Selangor, The Sticks is a quaint eco-resort built on a former tin mining site. Built with environmental sustainability in mind, the resort generates electricity through solar power, sources water from a nearby stream, and the space was constructed with minimal clearance and disturbance to its natural surroundings.
Located just an hour away from Kuala Lumpur, The Sticks is a perfect off-the-grid nature escape - you'll get to leap into the arms of nature without having to venture too far off the city. This nature hideaway allows you to go on adventurous nature walks, take a refreshing dip in the stream, lie back and stargaze from a spacious wooden verandah, or 'pamper' yourself to a lazy nap in your tendok (the affectionate name for rooms at The Sticks that are a cross between a tent and a pondok). Urbanites craving for a cool, quiet, and restful getaway will get what you need at this secluded sanctuary.
Get Ready For Adventure
Even getting to The Sticks is a little adventure on its own - so be sure to put on your comfortable and sturdy shoes as you make your way there! Upon arriving at the area, you'll have to go through a short 10-minute jungle walk that includes crossing a suspension bridge. Alternatively, you can choose to hop on a 4x4 pick-up truck that is used to deliver your luggage if you're not up for the adventure!
Your Stay At The Sticks
Ready for your jungle home? The rustic chalets and huts at The Sticks are called tendoks, a term that probably sounds foreign to you. Tendoks are a cross between a tent and a pondok, and while you may be a bit taken aback with the thought of sleeping in a pondok, these lovely accommodations are actually a lot more comfortable than you think!
In fact, they're bright, airy, and spacious, great for a good night's sleep and bonding with your loved ones. The smaller tendoks fit 2 people and are great for a romantic, intimate stay, while the bigger ones fit groups up to 4. All of them come with comfy mattresses and pillows!
While the units are not furnished with air-conditioning, the space is relatively cool thanks to the fans, surrounding forest, and the airy architecture of the tendoks. Also, The Sticks is located 300m above sea level, so it actually gets quite cool at night. Rooms also come with a verandah that's great for chilling, as well as electrical sockets, ceiling fans, lights, duvets, towels, and toiletries. Get ready to fall asleep soundly to the soothing lulls of nature.
Staycation packages on Klook allow you the option of spending the night in the Bamboo House (2 pax), Little Pitta House (2 pax), Serengeti Tent (4 pax), The Ara (4 pax), or The Nest (4 pax). All the units exude a rustic, cosy charm and come with attached bathrooms.
Homey Meals Cooked With Love
People who've been to The Sticks have quite frequently mentioned the delicious home-cooked meals served at the resort. Served at a breezy open-air dining area, the dishes are comfort food at their best - cooked with simple, humble local ingredients and full of great flavour. Tuck into delicious dishes like chicken curry, pisang goreng, fresh prawns, tofu, and vegetables.
The staycation packages available on Klook come inclusive of home-cooked breakfast and BBQ or steamboat dinner - you can even opt for a romantic glamping package that also comes with lunch, afternoon tea, and a private candlelit dinner!
Things To Do At The Sticks
Whether you'd like to spend your day relaxing and chilling, or with a tinge of adventure, it's really up to you at The Sticks - the resort is well-equipped for visitors at both ends of the spectrum. Temporarily leave the digital world behind as reception is pretty limited in the area (with Celcom tested to offer the most stable connection), giving you all the more reason to reconnect with yourself and your loved ones.
Kick Back And Relax
Pamper yourself to a well-deserved break away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the call of work and duty, and endless staring at your digital screens. The tranquil environment of The Sticks makes it easy to feel at ease, especially since the retreat is somewhat secluded and full of private space.
If you're bored of relaxing in your tendok, head to the Dewan - a shared lounge-like space at the resort where you can read a book on a hammock or bond with your travel companions over board games like Mastermind and Monopoly! There are also books, toys and other games suitable for children of all ages.
Exploration And Adventure
For those in search of some thrill and adrenaline, the lush rainforest of Kuala Kubu Bahru is right there waiting to be explored. Fill your day with nature activities such as jungle trekking (trails of varying difficulties available - with options suitable even for children and the unfit), white water rafting, river tubing, swimming in the nearby river (with a shallow section that's great for kids, and more exciting rapids further downstream!), and even paragliding. You can also drive out to stroll around the nearby Kuala Kubu Bharu town (historical streets, walls full of murals, and more).
