Whether you’re shopping for a picnic, gathering creative wares to bring back home or just browsing, take a pick from the array of vibrant markets that come alive on Saturdays and Sundays. 

    1. Bondi Farmers Market and Bondi Markets

    Bringing talented makers of quality, fresh produce to customers who care about the source of their food, the Bondi Farmers Market is the go-to spot for brunch delights, handmade finds and fresh produce. Bring your yoga mat and enjoy some zen time out by taking a pop-up yoga class. Just steps away from one of Australia’s most famous beaches, the Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning. On Sundays, head to the Bondi Markets where you’ll be able to get your hands on clothing, handmade jewellery, vinyl records and vintage homewares. 

    2. Carriageworks Farmers Market

    A 10-minute walk from Redfern Station, this award-winning market is held every Saturday in Everleigh, in a beautiful railway workshop dating back to the 1880s. The Carriageworks Farmers Market features seasonal produce from over 70 farmers and artisan food producers across New South Wales. Talk to farmers firsthand and learn the stories behind their food. Find organic and biodynamic produce, artisan bread, boutique wines, single-origin coffee, herbal teas, meat, eggs, fresh honey and freshly cut flowers.

    Each Sunday morning, loyal visitors from all over Sydney trek to Addison Road Community Centre for organic groceries, vintage clothes, books, rugs, and even healing crystals and tarot readings. Stop by Brooklyn Boy Bagels for a poppy seed bagel with cream cheese, lox, dill and capers. Be sure to put aside some time to explore the diverse suburb of Marrickville with its vibrant music and art scene.

    Running on the third Sunday of every month at The Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, the Sydney Vegan Market is your ultimate destination for all things plant-based, cruelty-free and vegan. Alongside up to 130 committed vegan stalls, from fresh food to homewares to coffee to fashion, expect a slew of entertainment and activities including free yoga, pilates, mindfulness for kids and a free education series “TENT Talks”.

    5. Paddington Markets

    Held every Saturday morning, the Paddington Markets began trading in 1973, as a way to connect local fashion designers, craftspeople, jewellery makers and artists with customers.  Renowned for its location nestled in the grounds of the heritage-listed Paddington Uniting Church on Oxford Street, the market now has over 150 unique stalls selling fashion, accessories, delicately scented soaps and candles and pictures that inspire. Head to the Paddington Reservoir afterwards for a dose of greenery.

    Glebe Markets is one of Sydney’s most well known Saturday markets, abounding in  diversity, character and style nestled in the central district of Glebe which exudes a laid-back vibe and is peppered with heritage buildings. Offering colourful vintage clothes, new clothing designed by locals and hand-crafted jewellery and accessories, the market has over 200 stalls for you to browse.  Be sure to relax on the nearby lawns after you’ve shopped up a storm with some delicious food; the market also includes food stalls selling gozleme, kebabs, dumplings, fancy doughnuts and tandoori chicken wraps.

    Weekends come alive at The Rocks Markets, where carefully curated artisanal wares, gourmet street food and harbourside views come together on Sydney's oldest cobblestone streets. Meet local Sydney artists and photographers, sample handmade beauty products, or allow one of the many food vendors to fuel your explorations. The markets are nestled within walking distance to the CBD and just footsteps from the ferries, trains and buses of Circular Quay and Wynyard. After you’ve had your fill of shopping, head to some of Sydney’s oldest pubs or a meal at a restaurant overlooking the harbour.

    The Kirribilli Markets offer one of the best city vistas, overlooking the sparkling harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. On Saturdays, the market features over 220 stalls selling new and recycled fashion and accessories, antiques and collectables, and homewares.  On Sundays, the market has a more artisan focus, with stallholders offering art, design and emerging local fashion designers. Enjoy live music and international foods as you browse.

    Chinatown’s famous Friday Night Markets is one of Sydney’s most popular late-night shopping hotspots. Open every Friday from 4 pm to 11 pm, the Markets reflect the culture, creativity and energy of Sydney’s thriving Chinatown precinct. The Chinatown Markets offer visitors the opportunity to taste their way through Asia without leaving Australia. Head there for your dose of delicious street food and Asian culture.

    Experience the vibrant atmosphere of Sydney Fish Market, a working fish market located on the harbour in Blackwattle Bay, Pyrmont - just a short distance from downtown Sydney. The Sydney Fish Market is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, selling a range of seafood and fresh produce; also on-site are cafés, restaurants, a wholesale auction, and the Sydney Seafood School. At the Sydney Seafood School master the art of cooking with seafood across a hands-on-lesson, which includes a delicious meal and a glass of wine.

    11. Rozelle

    The Rozelle Collectors Market offers second hand wares, collectibles, fashion, jewelry and antiques. Stallholders have been selling pre-loved wares in the grounds of the Rozelle Public School for over 20 years, and the markets are a brilliant spot for a leisurely browse and a fabulous place to bag some unique finds. Be sure to explore nearby Balmain afterwards, which has an abundance of heritage pubs and lovingly restored cottages.
