10 Awesome Things to Do near Perth Post-lockdown

Have you been at home creating a bucket list of all the places you need to get to once the bans are lifted? It won't be too long now when you'll be out and about on the town. Perth is a city waiting to be explored with great things to do around every corner. There are so many fun things to do with friends in town and some an easy day trip away. We made you a list!

Rottnest Island is one of the most stunning places to visit around Perth. It has incredible beauty and biodiversity with its crystal clear water and white sand; it truly is an idyllic island waiting to be explored. 

The best way to explore everything this incredible place has to offer is with a ferry, bike and snorkel tour. On this tour, you’ll be easily ferried across to the island where you can pick up a few bikes and head out exploring the coastline and all the bays and beaches. You can then pick up some gear and go snorkelling and see unique marine wildlife in their natural underwater habitat. Not only is this the perfect day to be out in the fresh-air, there are a multitude of fun activities on  the island which means there is something for everyone.

If you love the idea of exploring Rottnest Island, but the thrills are actually what you're looking for, never fear we actually meant it when we said there is something for everyone! 

Skydiving at Rottnest Island is the perfect way to get your adrenaline pumping. You’ll have the choice to take the plunge from 8,000-feet, 10,000-feet, 14,000-feet, or 15,000-feet above the ground with a 60-second free fall from the plane (EEK!!). But what makes this jump so incredible!? You get to land on one of Western Australia’s most beautiful beaches where you will be welcomed with a celebratory drink  (I mean, you’ll need it after that huge rush to the head!). 

If you're craving something magical, then you need to head down to Dunsborough, Augusta or even Albany to observe and learn about whales. They truly are some of the most majestic creatures in the world, and fascinating to watch in their local habitat. We promise you, this is not a boring activity that should be left for your grandparents, this tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that should not be skipped. You will learn not only about the environment whales thrive in, but your expert guide will teach you about their daily life under the sea. On your adventure, you may also spot sea creatures like the New Zealand fur seals, bottlenose and common dolphins, and sea birds.  It's more of an overnight trip than a day trip from Perth, but we think it's well worth it!

If you’re looking to make lasting memories then we recommend getting swept off your feet with a Hot Air Balloon experience over Perth. 

Book an incredible experience of a sunrise balloon flight over the picturesque Avon Valley, which quite literally will leave you breathless. The adventure begins just before sunrise (non-morning people bear with us, we promise it’s worth it!) where you will meet in a ballooning hanger where some hot-coffee and a whole lot of expectation brewing in the room. You’ll then be transported to the balloon and basket, where you will take off and watch the sunrise over the valley. Trust us when we say your friends won’t have anything on your post-lockdown instagram posts. So pack the camera, wear your smile and enjoy the ride.

If you’re looking for some unique and fun things to do with friends near Perth post-lockdown, then we suggest heading south to the Margaret River Mountain Bike Tour. These specialised tours take you off the beaten track and into some of the most stunning terrain you never knew existed in WA.

One highlight tour for us is their Trails to Ales tour. While many know the Margaret River region for its Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, many miss the incredible Ales that are in this region. This tour takes you on a journey to four of the best breweries in the region, deep in the heart of the Boranup Forest.

All the rides are customised to fitness and ride ability, which means no one gets left behind and you don’t need to be an Olympian to participate. It is a tonne of fun so jump on and get riding. 

Now if the above got you a little excited about the possibility of having a ride and a little drink, then we suggest checking out the Sip N Cycle Winery Tour. This tour is the ultimate way to explore Margaret River’s vineyards. You’ll get to ride from vineyard to vineyard tasting Margaret River’s world class wines while enjoying all of the incredible scenery around you, plus end your tour with a platter of cold meats and cheeses - I dare you to think of something more perfect than this! 

If you're after a day of adventure, these guys are the real deal; they're a local family-run Margaret River company who know all the secrets of the area - from kayaking, to mountain biking, surfing and winery Tours. Surf N Dirt provides some of the best things to do near Perth. If you love the combination of an adventure and leisure, then you will love this tour; it's the best of both worlds - you get to experience the best beaches, wineries and gourmet produce the region has to offer. It certainly isn’t your typical wine tour, but that’s what makes it more exciting.

One thing we’ve missed this quarantine is the ability to go out with friends to enjoy a drink or two and have a great time. So, naturally one thing that was high on the list of things to do near Perth post-lockdown was a visit to one of our favourite places - the Little Creatures Brewery. 

The brewery itself is located in Fremantle and provides some great beer tasting opportunities. If you’re interested in learning about the brewing process, the Little Creatures Brewery also hosts a range of tours that you can hop on to get the low-down on Fremantle’s craft beers and learn the ins and outs of the different phases of the brewing process.  

If you’re anything like us, we sat in quarantine reflecting on just how amazing the great outdoors really is. That’s why this scenic cruise through the canals of Mandurah was a no-brainer. There is a wealth of gorgeous cultural sites and beautiful views waiting to be seen and this cruise is the perfect way to do it. Throughout your time you'll see pelicans, ospreys, and even North Asian migratory birds, a number of which are rare species. But most of all, you'll enjoy getting a close look at the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, as this area is where many pods gather. Don't forget your camera!

Sea Lions are one of the most fascinating creatures; they are an endangered species which makes it all the more reason to get out of the house and experience these rare beauties. Jump on a tour to dive deep into the deepest blue seas at Jurien Bay near Perth where you will get to come face to face with this incredible species who love to play and have fun with you, as well as other marine life including the demersal fish and vibrant coral reefs. It is a great day out, especially if you're missing he great outdoors!
