Lights, camera, snap! Vivid Sydney is back with a bang and your Insta feed is about to burst with vibrant colour. ICYMI, new Vivid Sydney will be taking over the city from 27 May to 18 June. So get ready to celebrate Sydney’s creative soul and explore as the city comes alive at night with innovative Vivid light shows in unexpected places, including the longest Vivid Light Walk in the history of the event (it stretches a whole 8km from Sydney Opera House to Central Station this year!).

2. Convergence, by Mandylights
Let your inner explorer come to life as you step into an abandoned tunnel and open a portal to a spectacular convergence of lights, lasers and smoke effects. Want to feel like you’re walking on water? Step onto a magical floating boardwalk surrounded by 150 massive illuminated spheres and feel as though you’ve jumped into a giant bubble bath! These iridescent balls change colour throughout the night, illuminating the surface of the water and are choreographed to a unique soundscape to produce the ultimate light dance.

Who’s keen for a boogie? This immersive addition to the Vivid Sydney Light Walk is an ode to our city’s dance floors with 5 light and music artworks that morph across 360-degree LED walls. Between the lockouts and the lockdowns, Sydney’s dancefloor scene took a serious hit. Temple of Joy is a multisensory extravaganza that aims to revive a new dance music culture and revitalise Sydney’s nightlife so you can dance the night away.

5. For Sydney With Love, by Ken Done & Spinifex
Aussie artist Ken Done, shares a love letter to Sydney’s soul with this vibrant installation. Watch as his colourful drawings of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge come to life with heritage-listed Customs House as the backdrop! Grab a seat on the grass outside the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and watch as the gallery’s six-storey façade comes to life with a multi-coloured projection set to an energising electro-pop soundtrack.

8. Yarrkalpa - Hunting Ground 2021, by the Martu Artists and Curiious
Did you even go to Vivid Sydney if you didn’t see the Lighting of the Sails? One of our city’s most iconic buildings, the Sydney Opera House, gets its annual colourful makeover with a collaboration with First Nations artists. Sydney-based agency Curiious Studio will illuminate the iconic building with an awe-inducing Martumili collective painting Yarrkalpa - Hunting Ground, Parnngurr Area 2013 across the famous sails, which tells the story of Aboriginal intimate connection to the land.
