    Vivid Sydney is back everyone! After a two year hiatus, we cannot wait to see the city come to life again with festivity and colour. What's more, the 2022 line-up sounds like it will be more stellar than ever. There's the Light Walk, which stretches on for eight kilometres this year (wow!), a laser-lit tunnel from Central Station all the way to the Sydney Opera House and even Australian icon Paul Kelly makes an appearance!

    Here's our run-down of the most exciting things to do and see at Vivid Sydney 2022, including:
    • Vivid Light - there are more than 50 incredible light art projections and installations on the 8km Light Walk: the Endless Love installation at Circular Quay, Ephemeral Oceanic at Walsh Bay (giant bubbles in the water!) and Convergence at The Goods Line (a laser-lit tunnel) are must-sees this year.
    • Vivid Music - this year, Vivid Music Program will flip the script on traditional performance, hosting more than 150 music events at surpsing venues across Sydney including Spiritualized playing at Luna Park, the all-new Vivid Sydney Supper Club at Mary's Underground, plus free live music at Tumbalong Park, Central Station and a jam-packed program of DJs at The Goods Line.
    • Vivid Ideas - International storytellers Gretchen Carlson and Troye Sivan will be headlining the Vivid Ideas program. Vivid Ideas Up Late will be hosted for the first time at Sydney's renowned cultural institutions for a series of free, playful nights combining talks, performances, fashion, music, and food at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Australian Museum, the Powerhouse Museum, and the National Maritime Museum.

    What dates are Vivid Sydney?

    The dates for Vivid Sydney in 2022 are Friday, 27 May until Saturday, 18 June. We highly recommend attending earlier or during the week as the last weekend tends to be the busiest.

    Is Vivid Sydney free?

    The Light Walk is completely free to explore, and there are also many free music events and ideas, talks and performances to experience on the Vivid Sydney Program.
    There are also paid, ticketed events you can attend, or cruises and tours that you can book for more private experiences or even just to get better vantage points.

    Where is Vivid Sydney held?

    Vivid Sydney is primarily held along the Sydney Harbour foreshore. Stretching from Circular Quay, The Rocks, Walsh Bay, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, Darling Quarter and Darling Square, and this year all the way to Central Station. Many of Sydney's iconic landmarks will be illuminated; Sydney Opera House, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Customs House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Taronga Zoo and Luna Park will also have Vivid Sydney activations.
    In 2022, for the first time, the Light Walk will continue from Darling Harbour, along The Goods Line to Central Station.

    Light Walk [free]

    One the most exciting new changes to Vivid Sydney 2022 is the extension of the Light Walk. The 2022 Light Walk stretches as far as Central Station! You can visit all the key installations on the way, including the unexpected pedestrian crosswalk signs at Circular Quay, the Corpi Celesti at Barangaroo (an installation of bright, inflated planets), the monumental Earth Deities at The Rocks (hint: "massive part-idol, part-monster, part-hero") all the way to the sparkling and intriguing A Mirrored City at Haymarket.

    Endless Love [free]

    Put Vivid Sydney on the map as a date spot for 2022! Love birds can pose beneath the Endless Love sign at Circular Quay and announce it to the world on their socials.

    Ephemeral Oceanic [free]

    The installation of Ephemeral Oceanic is definitely the most fun! Bounce between 150 larger-than-life bubbles on a floating boardwalk at Walsh Bay and feel like a child again.

    Convergence [free]

    An abandoned railway tunnel converted into a laser beamed world that looks like a rave you'd find in Germany? Yes please! Situated on the Goods Line, the Convergence installation is sure to be a hit (especially with the uni students that pass the mysterious tunnel every day!). There will also be DJs spinning every night from 6 pm - 10:30 pm to match the vibe!

    On Saturday nights, bands and artists will be taking over the Grand Concourse of Central Station. Whether it's the start of your Vivid Sydney adventure or the end of the Light Walk, the setting is perfect for a mini boogie!

    Analogue Discogue Listening Bar [free]

    You'll find this gem beyond Wynyard Station in York Lane and never want to leave. All vinyl DJ sets played on pure quality sound systems to an intimate crowd of 30.

    Happenings [ticketed]

    Join an eclectic mix of artists and queer performers at the Royal Botanic Garden's greenhouse The Calyx. "Part concert, part cabaret and all dancefloor" - I'm down!

    MOTORIK! [ticketed]

    Anyone who has been to a warehouse party in Sydney's Inner West, knows the name MOTORIK! Now they're stepping up the class notch by hosting a rave at Sydney's hottest nightclub, The Ivy.

    Spiritualized, the legendary British space-rock act, is back in orbit, spreading the swirling, hypnotic psych-pop syrup of their latest opus Everything Was Beautiful.     There's no greater match made in heaven than German composer Nils Frahm and Vivid Sydney. And what better place than the world-renowned acoustics of the Sydney Opera House.     At Sydney Town Hall, Australia's own award-winning pop artist and actor Troye Sivan, compares notes with Flex Miami. The two will talk about new masculinity models, nonconformity, and being young and queer, as well as Troye's creative collaborations.

    Gretchen Carlson and Lisa Wilkinson on Speaking Out [ticketed]

    Exploring the world of geopolitics in the age of Fake News and the #MeToo movement, Gretchen Carlson, an American broadcast journalist, author, and television personality, will share her story, which was depicted in the blockbuster film Bombshell, alongside The Project's Lisa Wilkinson.

    Powerhouse Museum [free]

    Over three nights, Powerhouse Late celebrates what makes Sydney unique: the artists who push boundaries, the creative leaders who build community, and our city's distinct diversity and queer history.
    • Beauty - fashionistas ahoy! At Beautiful Freak in the Machine on 2 June from 5-9 pm, the Powerhouse Museum will be host to a number of magazine editors and clothing designers telling stories of life in the world of fashion.
    • Ballroom - did someone say strike a pose?! On 9 Jun from 5-9 pm, ballroom is the topic of choice at the Ballroom & the West Ball at Powerhouse Museum. Expect live performances, voguing workshops and dazzling gowns and costumes hosted by two legends of Sydney's dance scene (Jamaica Moana and Father Xander Silky).
    • Queer Sydney - on 16 June from 5-9 pm, the Powerhouse Museum will put the spotlight on Sydney's LGBTQIA+ community. You'll be able to follow the history from the original Mardi Gras in 1978 to how it has evolved over time and end the night with a boogie to some Disco Conversion Therapy!

    Art, ocean and science collide at the Australian National Maritime Museum for Vivid Sydney. If you're passing by Darling Harbour at night, be sure to look up at the Museum's rooftop! Every night it will come to life with stunning collages from the old times showing the long, arduous journey many immigrants took to migrate to the new colony. Also a great combination for visiting in the day and seeing the Vivid Sydney lights at night.
