Whether you want to party the night(s) away, go on exhilarating aquatic adventures, or immerse yourself in the rich local culture, The Land of Smiles has something that will make everyone grin from ear to ear. Without further ado, here are the pros and cons of traveling to Thailand every season:

There’s always a reason to go on a Thai escapade. If you want to see impressive and vibrant royal palaces along with colorful temples, then prepare yourself for the country’s architectural marvels. Get to learn about Thai heritage when you experience incredible cultural events first-hand, like the Lantern Festival and the Chiang Mai Flower Festival. On top of all that, there’s the delectable food. Where better to munch on Pad Thai, mango sticky rice, Tom Yum Goong than in Thailand itself?

    2. Peak Season vs. Low Season

    • Savings

Thailand, in general, is a budget-friendly vacation destination. Food, activities, and transportation are all pretty affordable. You can have a blast exploring what the cities and islands have to offer with a budget under $100 USD per day. It’s even more affordable during the low season.
The best season for Thailand, if you want to save on flights and accommodations, is from July to October. You can save up to half as it would cost to travel in the high season. The downside is that some hotels are actually closed from July to October, so there aren’t a lot of options.
    • Activities

The great thing about visiting during the low season is the lack of crowds. The traffic is very light and there’s also a chance to have the beaches all to yourself. But there’s a reason why the best time to visit Thailand is during the summer months from November to March. During these times, you can snorkel and scuba dive without worrying about the rain affecting the water clarity.

    3. Seasonal Highlights

    • January to April

For most parts of the country, the best time to visit Thailand is during the dry season, which starts from November and ends in May. There’s not a lot of rain, so you can enjoy the beaches under sunny, clear skies without worrying about the weather.
There are also big festivals to enjoy and experience the local culture personally. Join in on the fun at the Chinese New Year celebration at Bangkok’s Chinatown from January or February. Then, head north for the Chiang Mai Flower Festival and take in the colorful blooms. There’s also Songkran, which is Thailand’s New Year festival. There are festivities all over the country that begin on the 13th of April and extend up to the 15th.
    • May to August

May marks the beginning of the monsoon season, so expect a lot of rain if your Thai holiday falls during these months. In the north and central parts of the country (like Bangkok, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai), the rain usually lasts for around an hour before clearing the way for sunny skies.
On the bright side, there are events like Boon Bang Fai in May. You can watch vibrant parades and lively dance performances in the streets. A unique event is the Phi Ta Khon, or Ghost Festival, where groups of people dress up like ghosts and go against each other in competitions!
    • September to December

September is the wettest month for the east, north, and central parts of the country. But the weather improves in mid-October, when the rain starts to clear and the dry season is about to start. For water sports enthusiasts, December is the best time to visit Thailand to enjoy the windy conditions in the Gulf of Thailand.
In September and October, there’s also the Nine Emperor Gods Festival which takes place over nine days. There are parades all around the country and some markets also participate by selling only vegan food.

Before you begin your Thai getaway, make sure to bring a travel umbrella that’s small enough to fit your everyday bag. You can use it when there’s rain and when it’s sunny out to protect your skin. It’s also good to pack a shawl, scarf, or light jacket to cover your shoulders if you want to visit a temple. Besides the shoulders, it’s also important to keep your knees covered for religious visits.
