The Sagrada Familia is recognised as a beacon of Barcelona’s architectural achievements. Unique, unforgettable and unfinished – it is perhaps Antonio Gaudi’s defining creation.
Over 135-years in the making, the Basilica is seen as much more than a purely religious creation and has long captured the imagination of travellers from across the globe, often sparking a powerful emotional response to its beauty.
It’s Barcelona’s most popular landmark, so there’s often a definitive ‘buzz’ about the immediate vicinity, and once you’re inside the cavernous structure it’s easy to find space beneath the beautiful stained glass windows for moments of peace and perspective.
With more than 3m people visiting the temple every year, you’ll be sure to get the most out of your time there by booking in advance and having a guide with you to show you around the sprawling structure.
So, to help you make the most of your time in Barcelona, here are a few tips and tricks that should make your visit to this spectacular creation as smooth and as easy as un, dos, tres…
Getting There
- Address: Carrer de Mallorca, 401, 08013 Barcelona, Spain
- Opening hours: 9am to 8pm
- Nearest station: Sagrada Familia station (take the subway L2 and L5 to Sagrada Familia Stop and walk for 1-minute).
And if you’re getting the train or the bus, remember your Spanish phrases: “yo quiero un boleto a Sagrada Familia, por favor”. Got it? Es perfecto!
Ticket Options
When you book the Sagrada Familia Guided Tour and Fast Track Access with Amigo Tours, your biggest question will be whether to include the ‘Tower Access’ on your ticket option. We’d always recommend going ‘with Tower access’ because we always want to see as much of Gaudi’s creation as possible, but that’s totally up to you.
Getting your Tickets
Once you’ve decided and you’ve booked your tickets, you’ll receive a confirmation email and voucher instantly after booking.
Meeting your Guide
Quiosc Bar in front of the Sagrada Familia’s official gift shop (at the side of the Nativity Facade – see map for reference) is the official meet-up point for the tour. Make sure to check the time of your tour, and be there at least 15-minutes before the tour begins, as latecomers will not be eligible for a refund.
Once you’re there, you can show either a printed or mobile voucher to your tour guide, but remember that the voucher is valid only on the date and time specified so make sure your watch is set to the correct local time!

Things to Look Out For
The Sagrada Familia tour lasts for one and a half hours, and there’s plenty to explore in that time. You’ll get to marvel at the magnificence of the internal structure that is every bit equal to the external design.
The stained-glass windows cast magical prisms and patterns across the faces of those inside, and the spiralling facade is a stunning piece of art in itself.
The tour offers you unparalleled access to the 65-metre landing which gives you a truly remarkable view and an unforgettable ‘once in a lifetime’ experience.
Once your tour of this majestic structure is at an end, it’s fun to find somewhere nearby to sit and really savour the scale and spectacle of the Sagrada Familia in all its glory.
If you feel like you haven’t had quite enough incredible architecture and design, then why not take a 25-minute stroll to the North and head to Park Guell where you can enjoy more of Gaudi’s iconic work as you gaze out over the Barcelona skyline…
