Day 1: Hanauma Bay & Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail
After
renting a car, kickstart your Oahu road trip to your first stop — Hanauma Bay! This famous marine sanctuary and snorkeling spot in Hawaii is one that you can’t miss if you want to marvel at an abundance of green sea turtles, parrotfishes, angel fishes, and the humuhumunukunukuapua’a or reef triggerfish, the Hawaii State Fish! The clear and pristine waters of Hanauma Bay are good for both beginners and expert snorkelers. Feel free to bring your own snorkeling gear but if you forget to bring your own or don’t have your own set, there are snorkeling gear rentals available at the bay!

Next stop, Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail! If you’re up for a little bit of workout and adventure, then this stop at Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail is for you. This hiking and walking trail along sea cliffs will take you about an hour or so but it will all be worth it once you reach the observation point and lighthouse, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Oahu’s southeastern coastline like Koko Head and Koko Crater. Don’t worry so much about the trail since it will be nice and paved throughout! Some travelers even run up and down to squeeze in a good workout session. Just make sure to bring lots of drinking water because it will be a hot hike up.

Day 2: Kailua Beach & Kualoa Ranch

White powdery sand, turquoise blue waters, and a big space for different beach activities like beach volleyball and picnicking — it’s a good stop for big groups and even families going on a road trip. You can also try some water activities like kite surfing and kayaking while you’re at it! If you can, try to go early in the morning so you can catch the beautiful sunrise view.

After Kailua Beach, head onto Hawaii’s famous nature reserve, Kualoa Ranch! Take time to explore Kualoa Ranch’s deep and scenic valleys, gardens, and even an island. They also have a gift shop if you’re looking for souvenirs to give to your friends and loved ones or even just to keep for yourself. And did we mention that Jurassic Park and Godzilla were filmed here? You can visit some movie sites on the ranch so make sure to take lots of photos for keeps! Other activities that you can do here include horseback riding, ziplining, and ATV riding.

Head onto Paradise Bay Resort for your second night to get away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. Aside from its peaceful location, the resort is surrounded by nature and you’ll wake up to the sound of birds! After a tiring day, feel free to hop into the pool or join their yoga classes. Day 3: Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden & Byodo-In Temple
Starting off your road trip’s third day is a stop at Oahu’s largest botanical garden, Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden! Your next stop is at Byodo-In Temple, a replica of a temple in Uji, Japan! This temple is considered as one of the hidden gems in Hawaii because of its location and the beauty that the temple and its gardens hold. The Byodo-In Temple stands against the breathtaking backdrop of Oahu’s Ko'olau Mountains. Inside the area, you’ll spot a five-foot brass bell that is customary for visitors to ring before entering the temple. There’s also an 18-foot Buddha that you can approach to light incense and offer a prayer. If you feel like strolling around, the garden’s open and you’ll even see some peacocks and turtles roaming around the koi pond!

Day 5: Dole Plantation
