What requirements should I prepare to drive in Taichung?
You can book a Taichung car rental hassle-free here on Klook. However, overseas travelers looking to rent a car in Taiwan will need the following documents:
- A valid passport
- A valid International Driving Permit (IDP)
- A valid driver’s license from your country of origin
- A credit card for payment
- A printed voucher for your rental

- Most cars are automatic, but manual cars are also available if that’s what you prefer.
- When renting a car, make sure to get one that comes with a GPS for ease of travel. But just to be safe, you can prepare your own navigation apps as well.
- Driving is on the right-hand side of the road, and car steering wheels are on the left side.
- Everyone in the vehicle should have their seatbelts fastened properly. If you don’t have your seatbelt on, you’ll be fined an amount of up to NTD 6,000.

Make sure to have your phone cameras ready for this, because the illusion-themed art pieces here are great to capture, especially if you’re the subject in them!
3. HiONE Bobi Planet & Jurassic Planet
Families, especially those with pets, will love this family and pet-friendly destination — HiONE Bobi Planet & Jurassic Planet! There are many activities that you and your pets can do here, such as taking a dip in the family-sized swimming pool, giving your pets a pamper day at the pet castle’s pet beauty salon and accommodation, and getting active at Jurassic Planet which has over 50 dinosaur statues and some interactive games! You can also stop by the playground or even commemorate your visit with photos at some crowd-favorite photo spots like the castle, suspension bridge, grassland, and the pool.

4. Carton King Creative Park
Welcome to the very first paper-based theme park in Taiwan, the Carton King Creative Park! This park will take you to a world made out of cardboard, carefully crafted by local artists. Inside the park are replicas of iconic monuments from around the world, like Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa, London’s Big Ben, and Dubai’s Burj Al Arab. If you don’t feel like walking around or you just want to try something fun, you can also take the cardboard train that will go around the entire park starting from the entrance gate. Once you’re done exploring the many art pieces made of paper, feel free to grab a bite at the cardboard restaurant, where the seats and tables are made out of cardboard as well, but they are sturdy enough to carry much weight, so don't worry about that!

5. Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum & Dajia Mazu

Inside are nine different exhibitions on wood carving that you can marvel at as you journey deeper into the museum. To cap off your mini tour is a visit to Dajia Mazu (Mazu Temple) — one of the most sacred sites in all of Taiwan, built for and dedicated to the Chinese Goddess Mazu, the goddess of all workers of the sea or ocean, such as fishermen and sailors. After exploring the temple, you can go around the nearby marketplace to grab some authentic Taiwanese street food!
6. Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center

Your next stop is at Gaomei Wetlands Visitor Center — a space where you can take a relaxing stroll as you watch the sunset! On this expansive boardwalk, you can spot some migrating birds and crabs just frolicking around the area. There are also some wind turbines that sure are photogenic with sunset views! Since this is a famous sunset viewing spot, you will be joined by many tourists by that time so make sure to come a bit early to secure a good spot.

7. National Taichung Theater

What an artistic feast it will be when you visit the National Taichung Theater, a famous opera house with a remarkable interior of curved-wall units and air holes designed by Japanese architect Ito Toyo! Inside the theater are three performing venues that were built beautifully and meet international standards — the Grand Theater, Playhouse, and Black Box. There’s also a multi-purpose space called “Corner Salon,” perfect for educational events and public speeches. But, what most visitors go for here are the green Outdoor Plaza and rooftop Sky Garden that will give breathtaking views of Taichung and the beautifully-crafted exterior and architecture of the theater!
