Imagine a world where you could get from here to New York in a matter of seconds, just by saying “beam me up, Scotty!” Or get to the other side of the world just by hopping in your DeLorean?
Isn’t that a world that you one day want to live in?
OK, if you said ‘no’, you can probably just click this link and enjoy a fun video for a minute or two, because this article is all about teleportation and how it’s expected to revolutionise travel in as little as 10 years!
Firstly, let’s clear something up. When we say ‘teleportation’, we mean the proper teleportation. Y’know, the “theoretical transportation of matter” (in this instance, that’s you or me!) “through space by converting it into energy and then reconverting it at the terminal point” (in this case, that’s where we want to be going on holiday, like London, Rome, Paris or New York!)
In theory, there are two main ways that teleportation could be achieved.
Ready for the science-y bit? Great!
First, there’s the route of physically deconstructing a subject at point A and reconstructing it at point B. Like fancy magic lego bricks.
Second, there’s the route of digitising a person’s particles into data, and then transmitting it to another point for it to be reconstructed into matter. Y’know, like a fax machine...sort of.
And basically, when teleportation does arrive as a viable option, it’s fair to say that it will be the single biggest change to the travel industry since, well...2020! (Thanks, COVID 💔).
I mean, think about it...
- Travel time would be massively reduced, meaning more time on the beach than in the departure lounge. Win. ✅
- Greenhouse gases would be reduced, meaning y’know...the world would live longer! Definite win. ✅
- We wouldn’t have to go through the awkward “whose armrest is it anyway?” conundrum which would certainly reduce my stress levels! And let’s be honest, this is possibly the biggest win of all! ✅
That said, we would certainly miss the in-flight movie binges, the free miniature drinks and we can’t vouch for what kind of jet-lag effect teleportation would have, but we’re definitely willing to give it a go!
So if teleportation is the future of travel, why aren’t we doing it already?
Well, in short, because it’s actually incredibly difficult. We’re talking Scotty and Spock combined level of intelligence to figure this kind of thing out.
Luckily, we’ve been speaking with astronomy expert, author and all round smart guy, Colin Stuart and he’s been able to shed some much needed light on the matter of, well...matter!"
"The science of teleportation has kicked on considerably in recent years. In 2017 the Chinese teleported a particle of light 500 kilometres from the ground to a satellite in space. At the end of 2019 physicists achieved the first teleportation between two computer chips. It's a great start, but this technology doesn't scale up well if we're looking to teleport everyday objects or humans like we see in Star Trek. Unfortunately that isn't something that is around the corner.
But who knows, one day it may be possible. There's nothing in the laws of physics to forbid it - the only restriction is that you can never travel from place to place faster than the speed of light."
Summary: we’re getting closer to a teleportation travel utopia, but is it going to be an option in time for your 2021 trip to Tenerife? Probs not.
And sadly it’s not just a matter of figuring the details out. A study published by University of Leicester in 2013 reported that the computing power needed to successfully teleport a human being - which would involve breaking down your cells into data - would equate to around 2.6 x 1042 bits. And unless you’re Scotty or Spock, this is 2.6 followed by 42 - that’s FORTY TWO - zeroes.
To put that into everyday terms, teleporting one person would require the entire UK power supply for well over 1 million years, and it take around...4.8 million million years to transfer (give or take a couple of minutes). So yeah, while teleportation sounds great fun - and oh, won’t it be! - we’re going to have at least a couple of iPhone upgrades before we’re zooming through space like Captain Kirk and his cronies.
So if teleportation is the stuff of sci-fi pipe dreams, what are your options for high speed travel?
Well there’s the tube. 0-60 in...3 days.
There’s the train. (Providing it leaves on time!)
Or there’s the classic commercial flight (with in-flight movies and miniature drinks.)
And if you’re anything like us, the flying part of flights (if that makes sense) is great fun! Good movies, decent food and pretty much the only time you’re legitimately allowed to ignore emails. (Sorry, boss!)
But for a lot of people, it’s all the airport stuff that sits around the flight that has the bad rep; the customs queues, the security queues, the expensive taxis and the security and customs queues.
And while we can’t help you with the queuing (don’t worry - we’re working on it!), we can help you with dealing with those pesky taxis and their hiked prices.
You see, on Klook, you can choose from more than 500 airport transfers all around the world. From Heathrow to JFK, LAX to Sydney and everything in between, we’re making your trip to the airport safer and speedier than ever before.
And it’s super simple too! All you have to do is...
- Fill in the pick up information, add in your preferred dates and times and number of passengers
- Hit ‘search’, then have a cup of coffee and relax while Klook finds the best options for your criteria
- Take a look through the options we’ve found and pick the option that best fits your itinerary and budget.
- Choose which car you want to ride home in, and set your filters by service including options like:

And that’s it! And if you want to know the exact details of how to book your own private (or shared, if that's your thing) transfer, check out our step by step guide 👇
So while we can’t make teleportation a thing just yet, we’re doing everything we can to make airport transfers safer, speedier and more stylish than ever before.
