Wherever you fall on the Disneyland fan spectrum, we promise that this one is worth your time!
Read on to learn everything you need to know about visiting Hong Kong Disneyland in 2021 and the current safety measures in place.
Safety measures and regulations
Hong Kong Disneyland reopened to the public on February 19, 2021, with enhanced hygiene measures. Social distancing has been implemented in queues, restaurants, rides and other facilities throughout the park. Some interactive experiences including parades and close interactions with cast members are suspended until further notice.
Here’s what you need to know before visiting:
- Park visit reservation is mandatory for all guests at this time. You need to buy your tickets first and then reserve your visit date on Hong Kong Disneyland official website. Unfortunately, you can only book your visit 14 days ahead (but you can buy your tickets further in advance, note the validity date of your ticket when booking).
- The park is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays (except public holidays) until further notice.
- Park visitors are required to scan the “LeaveHomeSafe” QR code or register their names, contact numbers, and date and time of visit before entering the park. You will also find “LeaveHomeSafe” QR codes at restaurants and hotels within the park.
- Park visitors need to wear a mask at all times except when eating or drinking at catering premises.
- Temperature screenings are conducted at all Hong Kong Disneyland entry points. Anyone with a temperature of 37.5°C or above will not be allowed to enter the park.
- Cast members are required to wear a face mask while performing, except when performing outdoors with the required social distance.
- Hugging Mickey Mouse is out of the question: close cast member interactions have been suspended.
When and what time is Hong Kong Disneyland open?
In regards to opening hours, Hong Kong Disneyland is open Friday-Monday and Wednesday, from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM. The park is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays (except public holidays) until further notice.
Social distancing rules in Hong Kong can change at a short notice. Always check the official website for the latest opening hours.
When is the best time to visit?
There’s no wrong time to visit the Happiest Place on Earth but weekdays do offer the shortest lines! The park gets especially busy on public holidays so plan accordingly if you’d like to visit with fewer crowds. All that said, Hong Kong Disneyland is currently operating at limited capacity and there are social distancing measures in place so you’ll have plenty of personal space anytime you go.
Autumn and winter are great times to visit weather-wise and offer some of the most magical decorations. Visiting Disneyland Parks during Halloween and Christmas is always extra special with seasonal parades, entertainment and costumes. Hong Kong Disneyland also puts on a great celebration for the Chinese New Year!
Hong Kong summers get pretty hot but that’s a great excuse to treat yourself to cooling desserts from the summer menu! If you visit during this time, make sure to drink plenty of water and plan some indoor rides and shows during the hottest time of the day.
Hong Kong Disneyland tickets
The main two types of Hong Kong Disneyland tickets are 1-Day Ticket and 2-Day Ticket. If you're interested mainly in the rides and attractions, a 1-day ticket should be enough. If you want to catch all the shows and meet and greets, definitely go for the two-day option! And for the Disneyland fiends out there, consider Magic Access, the annual pass you can buy from Hong Kong Disneyland website.
There are also seasonal tickets on offer. With “Magical 3+1” (Hong Kong residents only), you’ll get four tickets for the price of three on any weekday. Alternatively, Klook Summer Promotion offers four weekday tickets and your choice of 2 sets of park meal coupons or 2 tall-sized Starbucks drinks, or 2 tall-sized Pacific Coffee drinks. There are great deals on Hong Kong Disneyland on Klook so keep your eyes peeled!
Note: Under the current safety measures, you can no longer buy your tickets directly at the ticket counters. You’ll need to purchase them online first and then book your visit date on Hong Kong Disneyland official website. Book on Klook for instant confirmation and a handy online ticket right on your phone (no printing needed!)
How to get to Hong Kong Disneyland?
Hong Kong Disneyland is located on Lantau Island. You can easily get there through the MTR: take the Tung Chung line (orange) and transfer to the Disneyland Resort Line (pink) at Sunny Bay. From Sunny Bay it’s just one stop to Hong Kong Disneyland on an adorable Disney-themed MTR car. The whole journey takes around 30 minutes from Central.
Otherwise, take a bus to Lantau Link Toll Plaza (E11A passes through Central and Wan Chai). From there, take buses R33 or R42 to the Disneyland Bus Terminus. You can always get a taxi but it’s not going to be faster than the MTR. A taxi from Central takes around 30 minutes and will cost you about HK$250.
Rides and attractions
Not counting Main Street, USA, there are six zones at Hong Kong Disneyland: Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point and Toy Story Land. You should be able to sample out some rides and attractions from every land, even if you’ve only got a day.
Main Street, USA
This is where your Hong Kong Disneyland adventure begins. Throughout the day, Main Street comes alive with parades and character meet and greets (although these are limited now due to safety measures, always check the official website for an up to date schedule). And great news: Castle of Magical Dreams is now open again after being refurbished! Make sure to get the classic shot of the Castle towering behind you as you stroll down Main Street.
Parades
Disneyland Parades may be over-the-top but it’s an essential part of the experience. Check the park calendar to see what’s on when you visit. Holiday parades for Christmas, Chinese New Year and Halloween are especially famous but don’t worry, Hong Kong Disneyland will always find an excuse to put on a good show!
Shopping
Main Street, USA has some of the best shopping in the park. Browse the wide variety of souvenirs, accessories, apparel and more at Center Street Boutique and Emporium. For something extra special, check out the gorgeous PANDORA store with Disney-themed bagels, bracelets and charms.
Fantasyland
Fantasyland is a Disneyland staple. If you’re a first-timer, this is where you can try the beloved Disneyland rides like “it’s a small world” or Mad Hatter Tea Cups. They may not be the most thrilling ones but they give us all the feels!
Castle of Magical Dreams
You can’t miss a Castle photo-op when in Disneyland. While not technically a ride, you can tour the Castle to view exhibitions, buy souvenirs and attend meet and greets.
It's a Small World
"it's a small world" is a classic Disneyland ride found at almost every Disneyland park around the world. It’s also the most whimsical (or dare we say: trippy) boat ride you’ll ever take with over 300 animatronic dolls serenading you along the cruise.
Klook Tip: "it's a small world" looks extra cool at night!
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
This is one of the most popular rides in the park so get here early or be prepared to line up. A crowd favorite with kids and adults alike because who doesn’t want to ride through the Winnie the Pooh world in a giant honey jar? Exactly.
Mickey and the Wondrous Book
Mickey’s Wondrous Book takes you on a journey through seven beloved Disney stories, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Jungle Book. The 28-minute show packs several of your favorite musical acts in one so it might be a good choice if you can only watch one performance.
Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland is home to Hong Kong Disneyland’s most thrilling rides: Hyperspace Mountain and the Iron Man Experience. They can get quite popular so if you want to avoid the crowds, make this land your first stop.
Iron Man Experience
This is the first-ever Marvel ride and it’s Hong Kong exclusive! Put your 3D glasses on and whizz over Hong Kong skyscrapers with Iron Man. The 3D effects on this one are top-notch: big drops will generate just as much screaming as a rollercoaster even though your seat is firmly attached to the ground.
Hyperspace Mountain
The most thrilling ride in the park, Hyperspace Mountain will get your adrenaline pumping. Ride in complete darkness (that’s right, those turns and drops come totally unexpected) as you dodge blaster fire in a raging fight between Rebel X-wing starfighters and Imperial TIE fighters.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!
Hong Kong Disneyland’s second Marvel-themed attraction is more mellow than the Iron Man Experience and is much more suitable for kids of all ages. Grab a laser blaster as you board your vehicle and shoot down the Swarmbots. You’ll see your score at the end!
Adventureland
Welcome to the jungle! Here you can cruise down the river on a raft (keep your eyes peeled for the animatronic wildlife) or climb the tallest tree to find Tarzan’s hideaway. But it’s not the attractions that are the biggest draw. Adventureland is home to Hong Kong Disneyland’s greatest stage hit: Festival of The Lion King.
Festival of The Lion King
Aerial acrobatics. Fire dancers. Incredible stage design. Festival of The Lion King is everything you’ve ever hoped for from a Disneyland show and more. If you love Lion King, this stage re-telling of the story is not to be missed.
Klook Tip: Seats are on a first-come-first-serve basis so arrive 15-minutes ahead of showtime.
Moana: A Homecoming Celebration
Jam-packed with dancing, puppetry and storytelling, Moana: A Homecoming Celebration is a really good time. The show is only 20 minutes and is performed in an open-air theatre so it’s a great choice for children who can’t sit still.
Toy Story Land
Step into Andy’s toy box at Toy Story Land. The oversized toys and super colorful rides make this one of the most fun lands to wander around at Hong Kong Disneyland.
RC Racer
If you like thrilling rides, RC Racer will deliver the fear factor. Speeding down the 27-meter-tall half pipe backward is quite something.
Toy Soldier Parachute Drop
Join the Toy Soldier squadron for parachute training. This plunge tower is not as tall and thrilling as the one over at Ocean Park but you still get some nice views from the top.
Slinky Dog Spin
This tame but adorable caterpillar-style ride will be perfect for kids and Toy Story fans of all ages.
Mystic Point
Mystic Point is a small but atmospheric land between Grizzly Gulch and Toy Story Land. There’s really only one ride here, Mystic Manor, but it’s considered to be one of the best rides in the park so don’t miss it. Other than that, you’ll also find two photo spots, Garden of Wonders and Mystic Point Freight Depot.
Mystic Manor
You may have noticed that Hong Kong Disneyland is missing one of Disneyland staples: the Haunted Mansion. Mystic Manor is Hong Kong’s unique take on the classic ride. You’ll step into the imposing manor of Lord Henry Mystic and his cheeky monkey, Albert, to discover all the delightful and frightening surprises it holds. While not a thrilling ride, it has jump scares up its sleeve.
Grizzly Gulch
What a contrast from the lush Hong Kong jungle! You’re in the Wild Wild West now, the land of geysers, gold rush and tumbleweeds. If you’re visiting on a hot day, cool off at the Geyser Gulch (or treat your friends to a surprise cold shower).
Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars
It’s not often that a ride makes you laugh and scares you at the same time. This roller coaster achieves both with plummeting drops and funny animatronics keeping you company along the way. Hold on tight as your mine car zips around the gold mine forward… and backward!
