Longing to go to the Happiest Place on Earth? Here’s everything you need to know about Hong Kong Disneyland:
All About Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland is the second Disney theme park and resort to open in Asia, next only to Tokyo Disney Resort. It’s located on Lantau Island and is only a 12-minute ride from Hong Kong International airport, so you can start the fun as soon as you arrive in Hong Kong! It’s also right next to Ocean Park Hong Kong, which is often a package deal with tourists’ Disney escapades.
Attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland
Let’s start with one of the most important aspects of a theme park: its attractions. Hong Kong Disneyland has seven themed zones, each with its own vibe and set of rides and attractions.
The first zone is Main Street USA, which is very similar to the one in Anaheim, California. It encompasses the entrance all the way up to the Castle of Magical Dreams (which was Sleeping Beauty’s Castle before it was renovated for the park’s 15th anniversary in 2020). Fans know that the castle is the centrepiece of a Disneyland park! Here you can take drawing lessons at Animation Academy and go souvenir shopping at the Emporium.
The next themed zone is Fantasyland, the more magical and whimsical section of the park. It brings classic storybooks and Disney films to life through carnival rides and attractions. At Fantasyland, you’re likely to meet Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh, and other faves!
Tomorrowland is a staple at Disneyland parks worldwide, so of course, it’s present in Hong Kong. It's a future-inspired zone that Star Wars and Marvel fans will love! Adventureland is the park's most extensive section and is reminiscent of the world's jungles with Disney's touch. Check out Tarzan’s treehouse and join in on celebrations a la Lion King!
Toy Story Land may be the smallest zone of the park, but it matches the theme to a T. Thanks to its rides and character sightings, it makes you feel like a toy in Andy’s room. Meet Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang! Grizzly Gulch takes inspiration from the Wild West, like Westernland in Japan and Frontierland in the USA. Its rides and attractions will make you say, “Yee-haw!”
Mystic Point is the newest zone in Hong Kong Disneyland, where supernatural and mysterious things happen. Here you’ll find the popular Mystic Manor, a haunted house-like attraction with illusions and effects that will leave you in awe!
And what’s Disneyland without a good ol’ parade and firework show?
Character parades are a staple of Disney parks. Disney World Orlando has the Festival of Fantasy, while Hong Kong Disneyland has Flights Of Fantasy. You’ll meet all the characters from all the beloved films in a truly enchanting affair!
Disney In The Stars Fireworks is a spectacular light and fireworks show at the Castle of Magical Dreams set to the tune of Disney’s music. It’s a great way to end the day at the Happiest Place on Earth!
Rides at Hong Kong Disneyland
Each zone is home to rides that embody the theme. Some classics are replicas or similar to popular rides in other Disney parks worldwide. Here are the best rides you should try:
The Iron Man Experience in Tomorrowland is a must-try, as there’s no other version of it in the world! This 3-D motion simulator shows you what it’s like to be in the famous suit to fight the evil forces of HYDRA. Also in Tomorrowland is Hyper Space Mountain, Hong Kong’s take on the popular Space Mountain. This indoor coaster will take you into the Star Wars world in a Galaxy Far, Far Away!
It’s a Small World in Fantasyland is a Disneyland staple worldwide and a must-experience in Hong Kong! It’s an indoor boat ride with musical animatronics representing various world cultures, including Aus!
Dumbo the Flying Elephant is a kid-friendly carousel-type ride in Fantasyland that will let you soar with cute ol’ Dumbo. If you want a taste of Big Thunder Mountain in Hong Kong, hop on Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars in Grizzly Gulch and race through underground mines on this steel roller coaster.
