Studio Ghibli fans, rise up! The World of Studio Ghibli exhibition is coming to Singapore's ArtScience Museum on 4 October 2024, so you can finally enter the marvellous world of beloved films like My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and more. Here’s what we know so far!
What is The World of Studio Ghibli?
Organised in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, this exhibition invites visitors to be spirited away to the fantastical realms created by the Japanese animation powerhouse.
It also marks the Studio’s first showcase in Singapore, which explores the groundbreaking animation, storytelling, and beloved characters that have captivated audiences worldwide for nearly four decades.
ArtScience Museum will bring The World of Studio Ghibli to life across 11 galleries which will take visitors on an unforgettable journey through 11 well-loved films such as My Neighbour Totoro (1988), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001) and Howl’s Moving Castle (2004).

The World of Studio Ghibli exhibition will be held at ArtScience Museum. The exhibition will run from 4 October 2024 to 2 February 2025.

What to do at The World of Studio Ghibli?
1. Explore the various film showcases
Explore 16 large-scale theatrical sets that will transport visitors into iconic scenes of the movies – from waiting in the rain with Totoro and entering Howl’s Moving Castle to hopping on a train with No Face.
Besides crowd-favourites like Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, and Spirited Away, other films in the exhibition also include beloved classics such as Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and more!
2. Enjoy photo ops and special interactive exhibits
In addition to the sets, the exhibition features 16 whimsical art installations that will offer a more intimate exploration and glimpse into Studio Ghibli’s creative processes.
You'll get to read in detail more about the different films featured, and there are even trivia snippets too - so you might just learn a fun fact or two about your favourite Ghibli film.
There will also be a variety of captivating box art pieces and trick-eye installations that will allow visitors to take a closer look at the intricate details of a Studio Ghibli film – from the laboratory of Kokiri the witch from Kiki’s Delivery Service, to a close up of the letter Satsuki wrote to her mother about meeting Totoro.
Activity Corners
Besides the box art pieces, you can also get crafty and hands-on at the different activity corners of the exhibition - we folded some adorable Totoro origami, and got to draw and colour our own Soot Sprites!

The exhibition will also be accompanied by a series of programmes providing deeper insights into Studio Ghibli’s storytelling and animation techniques.
ArtScience Cinema will be offering free screenings of two documentaries on Level 4 of the Museum: Kazuo Oga – Ghibli's Image Artisan – The Artist Who Made Totoro’s Forest (2007) and The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2013), directed by Mami Sunada which will provide a rare glimpse into the inner workings of one of the most celebrated animation houses of all time.
There will also be more exciting programmes (so keep your eyes peeled!), including a film festival featuring several Studio Ghibli films that will be screened in theatres islandwide.
