1. Universal Bakehouse
Do not be fooled by its obscure signage (hand-painted by a 71-year-old painter!) - Universal Bakehouse may look like an unsuspecting store from its exterior, but the smell of freshly-baked bread and pastries will hit you the moment you step in!
The bakehouse takes pride in their artisan sourdough bread, made fresh daily with love, and best enjoyed with a humble slab of butter plus a sprinkle of sea salt. Other popular items include their apple pie, choco cookies, and curry potato pastry. Seats are limited here, but the folks at the store are always smiley and friendly!

2. Dou Dou Bake
Dou Dou Bake is the new kid in town and arguably the most-talked-about designer bakery of 2020. Enjoy freshly-baked goodness and fragrant coffee in a calming ambiance with a minimalistic charm and raw aesthetic.
Here's a warning: while the bakery opens its doors at 7:30AM, queues start as early as 6:30 in the morning and you may find yourself waiting in line for 1 to 2 hours before getting a table if you're late. We heard the wait is totally worth it though, so sleep early and head over before the sun comes out!

3. Michelle Young Cakes & Desserts
This new bakery located in Bukit Jalil may just be the prettiest bakery in town! The dreamy Michelle Young Cakes & Desserts looks just like an English tea house and will hit you with the smell of warm fresh-out-of-the-oven bread and cookies the moment you step in.
The bakery is owned by Michelle Young, a passionate home baker who started out with an online bakeshop before fulfilling her dreams of opening her very own bakery cafe. While dine-in is not yet allowed during these tough times, you can pop by to takeaway some freshly-baked goods, or order them via delivery! Besides baked treats, you can also get drinks like hot chocolate, snowy oolong tea, and strawberry milk matcha here.

4. Croisserie Artisan Bakery
Some claim that Croisserie Artisan Bakery serves up some of the best, most fluffy croissants in KL. This neighbourhood bakery is an underrated gem that has garnered a steady stream of loyal patrons who keep coming back for their consistently-delicious pastries, cakes, and bread.
All the baked goods here are made using only the finest ingredients and authentic baking techniques, baked in small batches daily. Some must-try star products (besides their famed croissants!) include their pain au chocolat, baguettes, quiches, and canelés! With lots of seating indoors and outdoors, this is a great place to catch up with your long lost friends over delicious pastries.

5. Delifrance, Publika
After its nationwide store closures back in 2016, good old Delifrance has finally made a comeback! The bakery and cafe we were once familiar with is back with a chic, fresh, and modern look, and delicious croissants that taste just as good as we remember them to be.
Their new flagship store is located in Publika Kuala Lumpur, and is a perfect spot for you to hang out, people-watch, and sip on coffee as if you're on the streets of Paris (no harm trying to fuel our wanderlust, right?). Besides ala carte items, they also offer combo meals perfect for breakfast, lunch or a teatime snack.

6. Jaslyn Cakes
Jaslyn Cakes is no stranger to lovers of cakes - the cakes here are so good they sell like hot cakes (literally). With shops located in Bangsar and Mont Kiara, it's the perfect spot to head to if you're craving something sweet, fluffy, and satisfying.
Our favourite bakes from Jaslyn's are the Custard Donuts, Pavlova, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake. Do note though that both the shops are pretty small and can only seat a few tables at once. The vibe is totally quaint and homey, though!

7. TK Bakery 棠记兄弟饼家
Also known as Tong Kee in Mandarin, TK Bakery has been a household name for many generations since its establishment. The traditional bakery was established in 1970 and still upholds its legacy to this day, retaining the traditional skills and techniques in its baking process.
It is most well-known for its fresh, creamy egg tarts - with an estimation of 10,000 being sold daily now in all branches! 8. Tommy Le Baker
Fans of sourdough, here's another gem on the list! The breads at Tommy Le Baker are all kneaded, shaped, and baked on-site - don't expect anything too fancy, the menu here is pretty simple, with a humble selection of sourdough sandwiches, tartines, toasts, platters, and drinks.
The little bakery is tucked away in a courtyard of the Zhongshan Building in Kampung Attap, and you'll have to walk through a little art shop to get there. The al-fresco dining environment is definitely a breath of fresh air from the usual cooped-up establishments, and exudes a laid-back charm that's great for casual dates!

9. The Bread Shop
The Bread Shop has been around for 10 years now, and was the bakery that introduced cruffins to Malaysians. For those who are not familiar with cruffins, this little pastry is a hybrid of a croissant and a muffin, filled with a variety of indulgent fillings from creams to jams and curds. It originates from Melbourne, Australia and has since taken the world by storm!
The Bread Shop bakes their cruffins in large muffin moulds and pipes them with delicious fillings like lemon curd, chocolate, and salted caramel. These sugar-dusted little treats will convert you into a cruffin lover and leave you craving for more. Other baked goods at The Bread Shop include hot cross buns, scones, tarts, sandwiches, and more! You'll probably be caught in a dilemma of what to order when you stand in front of the display section - everything just looks so good.

10. Bunn Choon 品泉
If you've been to the popular Kwai Chai Hong (Jalan Panggung) area in Petaling Street, you've probably noticed this adorable row of shophouses with cheery yellow walls and old-school shutter windows painted blue. The shophouse houses Bunn Choon, a local bakery known for having one of the best egg tarts in KL, baked with a traditional recipe passed down since its establishment back in 1893.
The bakery used to operate from a small, humble store in the Imbi morning market which was sadly demolished few years ago. The egg tarts here are available in two flavours - charcoal and original. If you're a fan of flaky egg tarts, you'll love the ones at Bunn Choon! Most people pop by in the morning for a satisfying dim sum breakfast in the cosy space.

11. Kenny Hills Bakers
Kenny Hills Bakers started off as a small bakery in a tiny half-lot back in 2014, and has expanded into three stores over the years, located in Bukit Tunku, Desa ParkCity, and Ampang. With a vow to serve great coffee, amazing pastries, cakes, and organic breads to local communities, the people behind Kenny Hill Bakers have held tight to their mission since Day 1.
Indulge in an endless selection of treats from sourdough loaves to organic bagels, pies, tarts, mini pavlovas, toasties, and cakes when you pop by. 13. Lisette's Cafe & Bakery
Lisette's churns out freshly-baked loaves, pastries, and sweet treats from their pretty bakeries in Bangsar and Subang. We love the store tucked away in a leafy corner of Bangsar, the quaint space exudes a homey charm with its vibrant wall murals and laid-back vibe. Pssst, choose to sit by the cafe's popular pink floral fence built out of hundreds of faux peonies if you'd like to take a shot for the 'gram!

Der Backmeister translates to the Bake Master in German, and the folks here are truly the masters of baking. The bakery dons high ceilings and neo-classical decor, with ample seating both indoors and out on the patio. Fresh breads and pastries are baked daily in a specially-imported stone oven by their in-house Japanese baker, Australian patissier, and local bakers!
