    Educational activities

    Ready for the school holidays?

    Jom cuti sekolah
In an era of screens and instant dopamine hits, it can be hard to maintain one’s focus and attention, especially for children. Parents may find it difficult to keep them entertained after school hours and on days off. At the same time, the demands of the working world limit the time parents have with their children.
The activities included in this list may not be traditionally educational, but they’ll inspire your children to dream, problem-solve, and get creative!

Planning for more than one activity?

If your family loves fun and adventure, you might want to consider getting the Klook Pass Kuala Lumpur for easy access to all your favourite places in KL. You can choose between 2 to 6 attractions (some of which are listed in this guide), making it much easier to plan your day.

    Fun and educational family-friendly activities!

    1. Play grown-up at KidZania

    Kidzania grocery store
Is there a child in your life who simply can’t wait to grow up despite your futile attempts at telling them that adulthood isn't as it seems? If yes, KidZania will be their new favourite place. Kidzania is all about letting kids explore the real world in a safe environment. With over 100 careers available in the park, your child will surely leave the place with newfound confidence and inspiration for the future.

Whether they want to join the aviation or medical industries, or dream of becoming an actor or a chef, there’s something for every kid to enjoy! They’ll also have the opportunity to learn about money and budgeting. KidZania has its own currency; they can earn more kidZos by ‘working’, while some activities require them to pay to participate.
Operating hours: 10AM - 6PM (Closed on Tuesdays)
Address: Curve Nx, 18, Jalan PJU 7/5, Mutiara Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Tip: Remember to register your selfies as KidZania now uses facial recognition technology for park check-ins! A registration link will be sent to you via email.

    2. Be a batik artist

Coloured pencils and crayons may be common household art supplies, but wax and fabric inks are not. Consider going for a Batik Colouring Workshop, especially if you have art-loving kiddos in the house. Not only will they get to express their creativity, they’ll also learn a thing or two about Malaysia’s traditional craft.

This workshop allows you to paint either a canvas or a tote bag. In other words, you get to choose between having your artwork displayed or used practically. They have a variety of designs to choose from, including more traditional flower motifs to seasonal illustrations. All attendees must be at least 4 years-old to participate.
    Operating hours:  9AM - 5:30PM (Daily)
Address: 30, Jalan Inai, Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur

    3. Museum hopping

Museums are havens of information. Although some might find them boring, the key is to find ones that suit your interests and have interactive elements integrated into the exhibitions. Not only does Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery have hands-on activities, it also has a Children’s Gallery for maximum fun. This museum is also home to the RM1 million tunnel where you’ll see banknotes from different eras scattered throughout the entryway.
Operating hours:  10AM - 5PM (Closed on Mondays)
Address: Sasana Kijang, 2 Jalan Dato’ Onn, 50480 Kuala Lumpur
Another museum worth visiting is the Orang Asli Crafts Museum that’s located right next to the National Museum. Since they’re closeby, it would be a good idea to explore both on the same day too! The Orang Asli Crafts Museum features handmade crafts created by the indigenous communities of Malaysia, which would give kids good exposure to the different ethnicities of the country.
    Operating hours:  9AM - 5PM (Daily)
Address: Orang Asli Crafts Museum, Jabatan Muzium Malaysia, Jalan Damansara, 50566 Kuala Lumpur

    4. Solve mysteries at Breakout Escape Room

Put your intelligence to the test at a Breakout Escape Room! This escape room experience requires problem solving skills and teamwork, making it a great way to keep the gears going even during the holiday season.
    Breakout escape room
You’ll have to solve puzzles in order to move on to the next, and eventually figure out the main mystery. Each room has its own theme, challenges, and difficulty levels. We suggest checking out the Dreadnought or The War of Remembrandt for non-scary and family-friendly fun.
    Operating hours:  10AM - 10PM (Daily)

    5. Make your own pottery

Ever dreamt of making your own dinnerware from scratch? At Good Times DIY Pottery Studio, you can build cups, plates, and bowls by hand! Don’t worry if you’ve never tried pottery before, as the experts will teach you how to mould clay into works of art.

Although you’ll have to pay a little more to bring your artwork home, we highly suggest doing so. When else would you get the opportunity to use a bowl you handcrafted yourself?
Do note that this DIY Pottery Workshop is for those aged 10 and up.
Tip: Cut your nails beforehand! Otherwise you’ll have a hard time digging out soft clay from under your nails.

    6. Family game night at a board game cafe

Even with all the fancy activities available nowadays, no bonding experience will ever come close to a classic family game night. For those of you who don’t own a ton of games at home, you can always opt for a board game cafe. These cafes have shelves upon shelves of board games of different genres and difficulty levels. They usually charge by the hour, and some may have discounts for members or students.

There’s something quite riveting about the competitiveness and sudden animosity that comes with a game of Monopoly, and nothing can simultaneously tear apart and gel a group of people together like a +4 UNO card can.

    7. Explore the ocean at Aquaria KLCC

A trip to Aquaria KLCC will always be one that’s full of discoveries and excitement. Home to over 150 species of aquatic life, this aquarium will expose you to the diversity of creatures that keep our ecosystem in balance. From vibrant corals and sea snakes to adorable sting rays and tiger sharks, Aquaria is the place to go to for oceanic fun.

The aquarium even has a gene pool where visitors are welcome to gently pat the harmless fish, sea cucumbers, and starfish that spend their days relaxing in the exhibition. Despite its name, Aquaria KLCC doesn’t limit itself to just sea creatures— they also feature animals like otters and geckos!
    Operating hours:  10AM - 8PM (Daily)
Address: Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur

    8. Befriend cute animals at Farm In The City

    Farm in the City
Fluffy alpacas, humongous tortoises, and colourful birds— what else could you possibly want? Farm In The City offers more than just a regular zoo experience. Here, you get to interact with the friendly animals by feeding, petting, and taking selfies with them! You can buy the animal feed in the farm, which usually comes in the form of vegetables, grass, and hay.
    Farm in the City
For the full Farm In The City experience, don’t miss out on activities like longkang fishing where you, as the name suggests, use a net to scoop tiny fish from a longkang. They even have a pony riding area for your young ones!
Operating hours:  10AM - 6PM (Mondays to Fridays), 9:30AM - 6PM (Saturdays and Sundays), Closed on Tuesdays excluding school holidays and public holidays
Address: Lot 40187-40188, Jalan Prima Tropika Barat 1, Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor

    9. Bake sweet treats

Not every good thing in life comes easy, and the same can be said for sweet treats. If you want dessert that’s equally delicious as it is beautiful, a baking workshop is for you. Suitable for children aged 3 and up, this workshop allows you to bake a whole cake by yourself (instructions are included, of course)! All the way from measuring ingredients to decorating, the cake you bring home will be the product of love and labour.
    Baking workshop
Each session takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, and staff members will be present to guide you through, especially if children are present. Although aprons are provided, we suggest wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or are easy to clean, just in case an accident happens.

    Other activities you might like

    Ice skating

    Ice skating
Sports are a great way to encourage children to stay active while still having loads of fun. You’re probably used to the usuals like badminton and football, so why not spice things up with ice skating? There are a few well-known skating rinks, but here are our top choices:
We highly encourage you to bring your own socks and gloves, but fret not, they’re sold on site as well. There’ll also be staff members in the rink who’ll help you out if you’re a beginner skater.

    Bomb Battle

    Bomb battle
Think about all the games you played on the family computer when you were younger. Now, imagine experiencing said games all over again, in real life. At Bomb Battle, challenge yourself to a series of games that will put your teamwork and intelligence to work. Some games will test your math skills, others involve endurance and vigilance. Their interactive games are designed to be equally as fun for adults and children.
    Bomb battle
The rush of winning sure is thrilling, but we personally think that the most exciting part about Bomb Battle is when you lose. If you lose, your group will be splashed with neon paint or powder! The best of both worlds is possible though— winners get to choose between being splashed or not.
Bomb Battle has 2 outlets, and each one has its own unique games. Bomb Battle in KL has a tricky laser game, memory games, and more. Bomb Battle Elite is home to The Greatest Lava; collect points for your team and avoid the red tiles at all costs! This is also where you'll get to experience the Versus Arena where you can duel your friends at multiple games.
TIP: Although you’ll be provided with protective gear, we recommend that you bring an extra change of clothes just in case the ones you’re wearing get stained.
