Must-Visit Paris Attractions from Emily in Paris
Set in one of the most romantic cities in the world, Emily In Paris is Netflix's hottest new show. We're pretty sure we aren't the only ones who binge-watched the entire 10-episode series in just a few days (or hours).
The series made us want to hop on the next plane to Paris and explore all the picturesque streets and quaint cafes Emily visited, fuelling our wanderlust in these times where international travel remains out of the picture. While we're unable to fly over to Paris for now, it won't hurt to start adding some of these dreamy filming locations featured in the series onto our travel checklist!
From charming boulangeries to a century old opera house, these 12 filming spots will make you wish you were Emily in Paris.
Emily In Paris Filming Locations
1. Pont Alexandre III
Elegantly spanning The Seine and linking some of Paris's most popular spots, the Pont Alexandre III is widely regarded as Paris's most striking and grandiose bridge, as well as one of the most beautiful river crossings in the world.
In the show, the bridge forms the iconic backdrop for the controversial perfume ad, where the model walks down it undressed while the gazes of a line of men in suits follow her as she goes.
2. Palais Garnier
We're definitely not the only ones who gasped when Emily appeared in this scene - everything from her dress to the set location was filled to the brim with elegance and beauty!
The spot where Thomas and Emily were supposed to watch the Swan Lake performance together is the dazzling Palais Garnier, Paris's iconic 1,979-seat opera house. Be sure to add this onto your checklist the next time you're in Paris, this masterpiece of the 19th century will blow you away.
3. L'Atelier des Lumières
This is definitely one of our favourite scenes in the series! The digital exhibition that Emily, Gabriel, and Camille visited is the stunning L'Atelier des Lumières, a digital art space that presents classic pieces in immersive formats, just like the one we saw in the series featuring Vincent Von Gogh's Starry Night artwork.
Unfortunately, the exhibition changes from time-to-time and it isn't guaranteed that you would be able to watch the same Van Gogh exhibition.
4. Terra Nera
The restaurant where Gabriel works at in the show has attracted throngs of fans since its appearance on Emily In Paris! Though known as Les Deux Compères in the series, in reality, the restaurant is a charming little Italian bistro named Terra Nera.
Fun fact: the restaurant even rolled out a new dish in tribute to the show - fans who visit Terra Nera can dig into "Tagliata di manzo Emily", a sliced beef tenderloin served with arugula, cheese shavings, and vinegar sauce. *drools* We hope it'll still be on the menu when we visit after the pandemic!
5. Boulangerie Moderne by Thierry Rabineau
The little bakery where Emily bought a Pain au Chocolat that tasted too good to be true is Boulangerie Moderne by Thierry Rabineau, an artisanal bakery that serves up a variety of humble French pastries and fresh bread.
This bakery is literally located next door to 'Gabriel's Restaurant' in real life! How about having lunch at Terra Nera, then grabbing a pastry of your choice to-go?
6. Rue de l'Abreuvoir
In the show, Mindy introduces Emily to "the prettiest street in Paris" after a fun night out. This street looked pretty in the series, but is even prettier in real life. We didn't manage to catch a clear look in the series as the scene was filmed at night, but the street is extremely picturesque in the daylight.
Dotted with cute French buildings, ivy-covered homes, and paved with rustic cobblestones - Rue de l'Abreuvoir is picture-perfect and oh-so-charming. The street can get quite busy in the day, so if you'd like to avoid the crowds, head over early in the morning or late at night just like Emily and Mindy did!
7. Jardin du Luxembourg
Emily's early morning routine included jogs along the perfectly landscaped paths of Jardin du Luxembourg (also known as Luxembourg Gardens in English). The 23-hectare park is filled with amazing gardens, sprawling lawns, tree-lined promenades, ponds, and even a picturesque fountain built in 1620. Pack a picnic spread and head over for a nice afternoon out in the sun.
8. Jardin Du Palais Royale
The location where Emily and Mindy's adorable friendship began - Jardin Du Palais Royale is the beautiful park where the two ladies met each other for the first time.
The park offers a peaceful vibe and lots of sprawling spaces to sit, people-watch, and even have picnics at. Make sure you leave some breathing space in your travel itinerary to just head over, find a bench, and watch the day go by for a bit. Who knows you might even bump into a new friend like Emily did *winks*.
9. Café de Flore
Known as one of the oldest coffeehouses in Paris, Cafe de Flore is famous for being the 'hangout spot' of high-profile writers, artists, and philosophers in the past. Their famous clientele included people like Pablo Picasso, Léon-Paul Fargue, and Raymond Queneau.
Located at the corner of Boulevard Saint-Germain is where Emily met her intellectual love interest Thomas. Pop by for a cup of coffee, a flute of champagne, or a croissant and people-watch from a seat by the sidewalk!
10. Le Grand Véfour
Remember the Michelin-star restaurant that Emily tried to make a dinner reservation for? Le Grand Véfour is one of the oldest and most distinguished restaurants in Paris! With two proud Michelin stars, a sophisticated menu, and an impressive interior, Le Grand Véfour is definitely very grand.
We're not sure whether it's really that hard to make a reservation like shown in the series, but you can try doing so on the restaurant's official website if you're up for a fancy dinner when in Paris!
11. The Panthéon
You may have missed this filming location in the series due to all the emotions of the scene, but Emily broke up with her boyfriend back in America in front of The Panthéon, a historical structure built in 1758.
The building is the resting place of some of France's most notable figures, and you can explore its history with skip-the-line tickets available on Klook. You can also book a Paris Museum Pass and enjoy free access to over 50 museums and attractions in and around Paris, including entry to The Panthéon! Pssst, bookmark this for your next trip.
12. Hôtel Plaza Athénée
If you've got cash to spare like movie star Brooklyn, you can book a stay at this luxury hotel in Paris. The exact room Brooklyn stayed in is the Haute Couture Eiffel Suite, well-known for offering incredible views of the Eiffel Tower from its wide windows and balcony.
Located on the prestigious avenue Montaigne, you're definitely in for a glamorous stay at Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
