2. Uluru, Australia
For those looking for an unforgettable adventure deep within Australia, Uluru is an exciting destination due to its unique experiences, cultural significance, and stunning natural surroundings. Did you know Uluru is the largest sandstone monolith in the world?
As one of the greatest natural wonders of the world, Uluru is not only a landmark but is a sacred site for the Anangu people, the indigenous inhabitants of the area. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the rich culture, history, and Dreamtime stories of Australia's Traditional Owners. Located in the Northern Territory, you'll also encounter unique Australian wildlife and witness Southern Hemisphere's stars, planets, and constellations.
Visit at sunrise or sunset to enjoy the breathtaking view of Uluru changing from ochre to burnished orange and vivid red, and the stunning illumination of the Field of Lights.
3. Paris, France
Aside from being the City of Love, Paris is a destination where you can see art in many forms, like architectural structures, famous paintings, and iconic sculptures. Apart from that, Paris is also known for its fashion culture. Here, several fashion-related events are held every year, like the famous Paris Fashion Week.
The city houses famous spots that travellers dream of visiting too, like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Arc de Triomphe, and Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Make sure to visit from March to May during spring, and September to October during autumn for less crowds and temperate weather!
One event to look out for is the 2024 Summer Olympics which will take place in France. The event will be from 26 July to 11 August 2024, the biggest event ever organised in the country yet.
4. Taj Mahal, India
Step into a world of love and architectural brilliance in the Taj Mahal, the crown jewel of India! This ivory-white marvel, built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, captivates with its fusion of Persian, Indian, and Islamic styles.
Admire the exquisite marble architecture and the symbolic Charbagh gardens while learning about the legendary love story behind this iconic masterpiece. There are also local markets in the area where you can shop for traditional crafts and indulge in Mughlai cuisine. Oh, and don't forget to visit during sunrise and sunset for a magical, breathtaking view.
Your journey to the Taj Mahal promises a brief yet enchanting encounter with history, romance, and the allure of one of the world's most iconic landmarks. To avoid the rains and the intense heat, we suggest making your visit from November to early March!
5. Labuan Bajo, Indonesia
When international tourists think about Indonesia, they mostly think about Bali. Yet, if you're willing to fly a little bit more to the east, you can visit Labuan Bajo, which is your checkpoint to explore the wonderful Komodo National Park, the home to "the last dragon on earth", the Komodo Dragon.
But it's not just Komodo that will fascinate you here. Komodo National Park consists of several islands, and it offers a natural landscape that is hard for you to find anywhere else, including the beautiful Pink Beach and the super Instagrammable Padar Island. And for those who love diving, Komodo National Park has many diving sites ready for you to explore.
6. Tohoku, Japan
Tohoku in 2024 is a haven for travellers seeking serene beauty and cultural richness. With fewer crowds and stunning landscapes, it offers a unique opportunity to revel in Japan's charm. One of its highlights is the delayed cherry blossom season, allowing visitors to savour these iconic blooms later than other regions. The late-blooming sakura spectacle in places like Hirosaki Castle Park and Kakunodate Samurai District offers tranquility amidst nature's artistry, away from peak tourist times.
You can visit the Tohoku region using the JR East Pass as well as Klook's P2P train booking system. An additional recommendation is to use the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass and venture over to Hokkaido for stunning landscapes, hot springs, and diverse wildlife. It's best to visit in April for sakura, August for the Nebuta Festival, and December to February for winter sports and hot springs.
7. Busan, South Korea
Busan, the second-largest city in South Korea, is known for its unique coastal atmosphere and diverse activities. It offers a distinct charm different from Seoul, and it's a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
What's noteworthy is that you can reach this unconventional city in just under three hours by train. With its convenient transportation and diverse attractions, Busan stands out as a must-visit destination for travellers, providing a distinct contrast to the bustling energy of Seoul. We highly recommend visiting in spring as you can see the cherry blossoms in late March. Another recommended time is in September and October due to the mild temperatures here.
8. Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
If you're looking for a cooler climate and mountain views in Malaysia, then Cameron Highlands is for you! Lesser known than Genting Highlands resort and theme park, it's a laid-back destination made for nature lovers and those who want a chill getaway in the highlands. There is also a wide variety of things to do there, as well as an upcoming ESCAPE Theme Park. The best time to visit Cameron Highlands is from February to April, and from July to August. This is the dry season, so there is less chance for rainfall.
9. Burj Khalifa, United Arab Emirates
Soar to new heights at the Burj Khalifa, Dubai's iconic masterpiece. Located at the heart of the city, this futuristic tower isn't just a sight to behold — there's so much to see inside as well! Fast-track to the 124th and 148th floors for unparalleled views and capture breathtaking sunrise or sunset vistas. On the 148th floor, you can also indulge in VIP luxury with gourmet treats. Aside from its white sand beaches, Siquijor is known for its unique healing arts and traditional Filipino healers with a deep connection to nature. Visitors can expect an untouched paradise of mangroves, mountain trails, and beaches with abundant marine life. For the best experience, we recommend visiting Siquijor from March to May, as this is the Philippines' summer season.
11. Everton Road, Singapore
Once you’re done with Singapore’s tourist hotspots like Gardens by the Bay and Jewel Changi, here’s a secret spot to check out for a quiet afternoon date or solo wandering: Everton Road is perfect for a day of cafe hopping and mural spotting. Stop for brunch at 46 Mittsu which serves up decadent Japanese-inspired sandwiches, before grabbing a delicious freshly-baked cookie at Folks and Stories
Once your belly is filled, go on an adventure to explore rows of colourful shophouses and street art that include nostalgic murals depicting kampung life from the olden days.
Singapore offers pleasant weather all year round so it doesn't really matter when you visit. However, you might want to avoid November to January which is the usual rainy season.
12. Green Island, Taiwan
Green Island, located off Taiwan's east coast, is a tropical haven celebrated for its lush scenery and vibrant marine life. Spanning 16 square kilometres, this captivating destination offers pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and excellent snorkelling opportunities (where you can catch a glimpse of cute sea turtles!). Easily accessible by ferry, Green Island promises a perfect blend of natural beauty and authentic Taiwanese charm for a memorable getaway.
For the best weather conditions, we suggest visiting between April to August. Do take note of the peak season which is from July to August!
13. Ha Giang, Vietnam
Ha Giang, Vietnam, beckons travellers seeking a hidden gem for their getaway. Escape the crowds and immerse yourself in breathtaking landscapes of towering mountains, winding valleys, and lush rice terraces. Especially as the year draws to a close, the weather in Ha Giang turns crisp and cool, perfect for exploring the region's natural wonders. To name a few destinations to put into your wishlist, there would be Ma Pi Leng Pass, Lung Cu Flag Tower, Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, Hoang Su Phi, and more.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture, join lively year-end festivals adorned with colorful costumes and traditional music, and savor mouthwatering local cuisines.
The Bac Ha Market is one of the largest markets in Ha Giang Province. It is held every Sunday and is a great place to buy souvenirs, food, and other goods. The market is also a great place to meet new friends and learn about the local culture.
The peak season here is from September to October and it is also a great time for trekking, motorbike tours, and exploring the outdoors. However, this can also be the most crowded time to visit. From November to April, temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C. The landscapes are still beautiful, and you may see some wildflowers blooming. This is a good time for those who prefer cooler temperatures and smaller crowds. Do take care to avoid
June to August when visiting Ha Giang as this is the rainy season.
14. New York, USA
Welcome to New York! This vibrant city has five distinct boroughs, each with its own identity, so you can really never get bored. There are a number of coffee shops to discover, museums to explore, tramway and boat rides to hop on and off from, and so much more that there’s always a reason to go back. As what miss Taylor Swift says, it’s ever-changing!
There’s a good balance of well-loved structures like the Chrysler Building, the Met, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to name a few, amidst the newer sights like The High Line and, sort of new, The Oculus (World Trade Center Station). To avoid crowds — stay away from Christmas season.
15. Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal is a place where you can enjoy breathtaking landscapes along with a great amount of beautiful temples, cultural experiences, and see the famous Mt. Everest. Some of Nepal’s renowned temples include Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath, offering spiritual and architectural marvels.
Nestled in the Himalayas, Kathmandu serves as a gateway to trekking adventures, like the Everest Base Camp trek. The warmth of the locals, diverse arts, and the awe-inspiring backdrop of snow-capped peaks make Kathmandu an unforgettable experience for those seeking a blend of cultural immersion and natural wonders.
