Perfect Option for a Mount Fuji Day Tour
The Fuji Excursion train stops offer a gateway to some of the most breathtaking attractions and tourist spots in the vicinity of Mt Fuji. It is highly recommended to start from Shimoyoshida, take a short walk to Mount Fuji Station, and get onto the local train service and you will arrive at Fuji-Q Highland or Lake Kawaguchi.
1. Starting off with Shimoyoshida
As the Fuji Excursion pulls into Shimoyoshida Station, you're treated to a glimpse of traditional Japan. Famous for its ancient five-storied pagoda, the Arakurayama Sengen Park, Shimoyoshida, is a must-visit spot. During the cherry blossom season, the park offers an exquisite tableau, framing the iconic Mount Fuji behind a cascade of vibrant pink petals. No wonder it's a favorite among photographers and travelers alike!
Be sure to venture around the streets of Shimoyoshida, and take a few snaps of the stunning views with the gigantic Mount Fuji as your background. This is a place where you can sample local cuisine, visit ancient temples, and immerse yourself in Japan's rich cultural history.
2. The Majestic Mount Fuji
Next, the Fuji Excursion train chugs towards the world-renowned Mount Fuji. Standing tall at 3,776 meters, this active stratovolcano is Japan's highest mountain and is considered sacred by many. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Mount Fuji offers stunning views that will leave you mesmerized. From breathtaking sunrises to tranquil lake reflections, every moment spent here is an Instagram-worthy snapshot. And if you’re up for an adventure, trekking up this majestic peak is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
3. Thrilling Rides at Fuji Q Highland
As you continue on your journey, don't miss out on some heart-pounding excitement at the Fuji Q Highland. Known for its adrenaline-fueled roller coasters, this amusement park boasts some of the world's tallest, fastest, and steepest rides. Don't miss the Takabisha, the roller coaster with the steepest drop in the world, and the Fujiyama, aptly named the "King of Roller Coasters". Beyond the thrill rides, Fuji Q Highland also offers kid-friendly attractions and themed areas, making it a fun-filled destination for the entire family.
4. End of the Line: Lake Kawaguchi Station
The final stop on the Fuji Excursion train is Lake Kawaguchi Station. This quaint station is your gateway to the scenic Lake Kawaguchi and offers incredible views of Mount Fuji.
We took the Kawaguchiko sightseeing bus from the station, which takes you to major attractions around the area. There are 3 lines for you to choose from, the more touristy lines are usually the red line or the green line. You can check out more details here.
The surrounding area is filled with hot springs, traditional ryokans (Japanese inns), museums (be sure you spend some time visiting the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum), and eateries offering delicious local delicacies. Make sure to take a leisurely stroll along the lake, capture the magical reflections of Mount Fuji, and also spend some time riding the cable car, in which you can enjoy a majestic view of Mount Fuji and its surroundings.
The Fuji Excursion train isn’t just a journey; it's an immersive experience that embodies Japan's breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural history, and exhilarating adventures. Whether you're a solo traveler, a family on vacation, or a photography enthusiast, the Fuji Excursion provides a unique opportunity to explore and experience the charm and beauty of Japan. So, hop on board and let your journey unfold!

Other ways to visit Mount Fuji
The Fuji Excursion train can often be booked out, just in case, refer to the other modes in the section below if you're looking for alternatives to the train service.
🚌 By Bus - Book Tokyo to Mount Fuji bus here!
Buses provide a convenient and economical alternative. Several companies offer direct bus services from Shinjuku Bus Terminal to the Kawaguchiko, Fujisan World Heritage Center, Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park or Fifth Station of Mount Fuji, the gateway to climbing the mountain.
The bus ride takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, and the advantage here is that the buses run frequently throughout the day, requiring no transfers. However, buses can be affected by traffic conditions, which may extend travel times. Also, seating may not be as comfortable as that in trains, and the views might not be as scenic.
🚐 Private Transfer Car - Book Tokyo to Mount Fuji private transfer here!
For those seeking comfort, convenience, and flexibility, a private transfer car is the way to go. This service offers door-to-door transportation from your accommodation in Tokyo directly to Mount Fuji.
Private transfers are ideal for families, groups, or those with a packed itinerary, as they allow for customization of departure times and stops along the way. You also get the added benefit of a private driver who can provide insightful local information. The downsides, however, are the higher cost and potential traffic delays.
