IOI City Farm: a new indoor edutainment space in Putrajaya
Looking for a new spot to bring your little ones to this weekend? There's an exciting new indoor edutainment space in town that you can check out! ✨ Located on the second floor of IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, IOI City Farm is a brand-new family-friendly attraction in Klang Valley. Designed with an "indoor living planet" concept, the indoor farm comprises of 2 levels and 3 zones that span across a space of 18,000 sqft.
What to expect at IOI City Farm
Basically adorable animals, marine life, & plants - all under one roof. ✨ While it isn't a huge space, IOI City Farm is jam-packed with interactive exhibits that can keep both adults and kids entertained for hours. The farm was designed with the consultation and involvement of qualified zoologists, aquarists, and botanists, and aspires to be a place where all visitors, especially children can learn about the natural world in a fun and engaging environment. 🐇
Here are the 3 main zones at IOI City Farm and what to expect at each:
1. Greenland
The first section that welcomes you right upon passing the turnstiles is Greenland, kinda like a greenhouse-ish zone filled with a combination of common and exotic plants and flowers. From a vertical herb garden to an open terrarium display and an urban farm with aquaponics, we'd recommend taking some time to check out the many refreshing greens here.
There's also an insect display section that you can marvel at (assembled in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia), a Glocave featuring glow-in-the-dark wall art, as well as some seating areas here if you need to rest your legs for a while before proceeding to the next zone. 🐞
2. Little Rimba
Little Rimba is the second zone of IOI City Farm, and definitely our personal favourite. 🐹 This climate-controlled zone is home to various species of animals from around the world. You'll get to interact, hold, and even feed some of these animals such as fluffy rabbits, curious guinea pigs, as well as baby chicks and ducklings. We also spotted the cutest lil meerkats here, as well as raccoons, peacocks, black-tailed prairie dogs, and Bengal cats.
3. Freshwater World
Done with the land species? Take the stairs a level down and you'll find yourself in Freshwater World, an aquarium zone with over 50 freshwater aquatic species from river giants such as the Amazonian arapaima to tiny crustaceans like vampire crabs, bamboo shrimp, and more.
This zone also houses an interactive section which includes a touch pool where visitors can feed hungry koi fish, touch sting rays, and fish for some guppies (don't worry, they get released back into the water after 🐠). There are staff stationed all over the farm, and they'll provide you tips on handling the creatures here with care. ✨
