Korea's Popular CU Convenience Store Is Coming To PJ!
News regarding the opening of the first CU convenience store in Malaysia brought about lots of excitement when it was announced last year, and we finally have a confirmed opening date and location of the first store! The first CU store will be located at Centrepoint Bandar Utama PJ (PJ folks, you guys are lucky!) on 1 April 2021 followed by the opening of approximately 30 - 50 more stores within a span of one year.
What's The Hype Around CU?
The popular Korean convenience store CU is probably familiar to those who have been to Korea - it is one of South Korea's most popular and well-loved local convenience stores (alongside GS25 and 7-11) that has approximately 15,000 stores all over South Korea. Besides usual items that you can find at other convenience stores, CU stores also carry their own range of products like unique snacks, cup noodles, drinks, desserts, and even hot food, making them super fun to explore!
Back in 2020 it was announced that the homegrown convenience store chain MyNews Holdings Bhd will be bringing the popular CU brand to Malaysia, with an expansion target of opening up to 500 CU stores nationwide over the next five years. An approximate number of 30 - 50 CU stores will be expected to open in the first year! Soon we won't have to fly to Korea to shop for Korean snacks that can be seen in Kdramas.
