3D2N Itinerary for a Family Trip in Penang
Day One - Explore Georgetown City
1. Ayer Itam Assam Laksa
Can you really say you’ve been to Penang without having a bowl of Assam Laksa? The mouth-watering sour, spicy and savoury soup is the pride of Penang and you can find one of the best bowls at Air Itam Laksa Bisu, for the perfect hearty meal to begin your trip in Penang with.
The tangy and sweet fish taste paired together with the fresh vegetables and a generous helping of mackerel will definitely leave your family wanting more. The humble hawker stall is tucked at the side of the Ayer Itam Food Court, where you can also find and discover many other yummy local delicacies.
Address: Ayer Itam Market Food Court, Jalan Air Itam, Pekan Air Itam, 11500 Air Itam, Pulau Pinang

2. Heritage Trishaw Ride
Start your exploration of the island with a fun trishaw ride around the charming city of Georgetown, Penang. Having retained many of it colonial buildings, religious sites and old world charm, this is one of the best ways to celebrate the city's deep roots in history. Also affectionately called a 'beca' by the locals, the trishaw is a three-wheeled taxi that shaped the city's transportation since the 1950s.
Book a Heritage Trishaw Ride on Klook and allow your rider to bring you around the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Fort Cornwallis, Khoo Kongsi, and more! Children aged 0 - 3 can join this activity for free, and there are discounted rates for children aged below 12 as well.
3. Georgetown Interactive Museums
Scattered across Georgetown are interactive museums that promise fun for all visitors, no matter your age. One of our favourites would be the WonderFood Museum, a museum dedicated to all-things food! Snap amusing photos here with larger-than-life displays of Malaysian dishes handcrafted with food replication techniques from Japan, such as the laksa, durian, kuih-muih and many more!
There are three galleries for you to explore, promising an interesting experience as you learn about our local cooking traditions and take fun photos. Book discounted tickets on Klook and enjoy a convenient entry by simply flashing your voucher code at the counter.
Address: 49, Lebuh Pantai, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Another interactive museum in Georgetown that we adore is the Dark Mansion, the very first and only glow-in-the-dark museum in Malaysia. This trendy modern art exhibit creatively integrates technology with its art pieces, transforming 2D paintings into awesome 3D optical illusions.
It'll be a fun experience as you immerse yourself with their interactive glow-in-the-dark exhibits and take photos here with your loved ones in front of unique glowing artworks. Enjoy discounted tickets to the Dark Mansion by purchasing through Klook!
Address: 145, Lebuh Kimberley, George Town, 10100 George Town, Pulau Pinang
4. Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul
On a hot and sunny day, it’s a must to stop by for a cendol break! The best bowl of ice cold Cendol can be found at Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul. Kids would enjoy the sweet, yet thirst-quenching combination of chilled coconut milk, cendol strands, kidney beans and gula Melaka.
The long queue is honestly worth the wait for Penang’s famous cold shaved ice dessert, but the line moves pretty fast, so you don't have to worry!
Address: Jalan Penang, George Town, 10450 George Town, Pulau Pinang
5. Penang Hill
Spend your first evening in Penang by bringing your family up Penang Hill to take in breathtaking views of Georgetown from the top, as well as cool, unpolluted air. A ride up on the iconic Penang Hill Funicular Train is a must-do, especially for the kids - they'll definitely gasp in awe as the Swiss-designed funicular brings them to the top, whooshing past lush greens along the way.
Much more fun awaits at the top, from having your dinner at the highest cafe in Penang to exploring The Habitat Penang Hill, a space that allows visitors to reconnect with nature in its purest form. Bring your children on a nature walk and get ready to be surrounded by a myriad of flora and fauna including cheeky dusky leaf monkeys, giant black squirrels, flying lemurs, and more!
Address: Jalan Bukit Bendera, 11500 Ayer Itam, Pulau Pinang
Day Two - Have Fun Outdoors
1. Roti Canai Transfer Road
Kick off your second day with a good meal to fuel up your family for the activities ahead. The roti canai stall on Transfer Road has been a classic stop for both locals and tourists alike, since it started operating here two decades ago.
We can't think of a better combo than pairing your roti here with the stall's aromatic and spicy chicken curry, and completing your meal with a cup of sweet teh tarik. Their roti bakar topped with half-boiled eggs are also our absolute favourites for the perfect breakfast choice!
Address: 110-114, Jalan Transfer, George Town, 10050 George Town, Pulau Pinang
2. ESCAPE Penang
Home to the world's longest tube water slide (that spans an incredible length of 1,111m!), ESCAPE Theme Park is definitely a must-visit attraction in Penang for a trip with kids! Surrounded by lush greens, the theme park offers over 30 thrilling activities including ziplining, twisting water slides, challenging rope courses, rock climbing, refreshing pools, and more - all in one space.
Most of the rides and games within the theme park are designed for a wide range of age groups, abilities, and energy levels, so you'll have just as much fun here as your little ones. Check out our complete guide to ESCAPE Theme Park and get your discounted admission tickets on Klook!
Address: 828, Jalan Teluk Bahang, Teluk Bahang, 11050 Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Pinang
3. Batu Ferringhi Beach
After a visit filled with thrills at ESCAPE, it's time to chill by the beach. Batu Ferringhi consists of a long stretch of sandy beach and is one of Penang's most popular destinations!
It's all sun and fun in the day time - let your little ones run around in the soft sand, fly some kites, build sandcastles, or try out the range of water sports available here from jet-skiing to parasailing, banana boat, and more. We'd also suggest to pop by to catch the sunset (pack a mat and some snacks for a picnic if you'd like!).
Address: Jalan Batu Ferringhi, 11100 Batu Ferringhi, Pulau Pinang
4. Penang Hawker Food & Night Markets
The authentic Malaysian night time experience would never be complete without visiting any local pasar malam. At night, head to the popular Batu Ferringhi Night Market that's open till past midnight, where you can find tents pitched up selling hot food and a variety of affordable goods.
Address: Jalan Batu Ferringhi, 11100 Batu Ferringhi, Pulau Pinang
If you're looking for a wider variety of hawker fare, we'd recommend heading to the Gurney Drive Hawker Centre. Allow your kids to experience the flavours of Penang in this one-stop outdoor hawker centre where you can sample some of the best local delights - char kuey teow, ikan bakar and many more!
Address: 172, Solok Gurney 1, Pulau Tikus, 10250 Jelutong, Pulau Pinang
5. Avatar Secret Garden
There's no better way to end the night than by entering into a magical realm at Penang’s Avatar Secret Garden. Tucked away behind the Thai Pak Koong Temple is this pocket of greenland transformed into a realm of neon fantasy.
Both you and your children will feel mesmerised by the enchanting setup here. LED lights drape off branches and wrap around trunks of trees, while tulip fields beautifully glow in bright LED colours - this is a truly magical sight that will make you feel as if you were in the actual Avatar world of Pandora.
Address: 336, Jalan Tokong Thai Pak Koong, Tanjung Tokong, 11200 Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Pinang

Have a yummy heavy brunch with your family at Norm Micro Roastery, an aesthetic space that exudes an industrial, yet zen vibe with its high ceilings, minimalistic greenery, polished cement and skylights. This family-friendly cafe is also pet-friendly too, so you might even meet cute fur kids while you're here!
The cafe offers an extensive menu with healthy food options like granola and chia pudding as well as hearty items that your kids would love like their French toast and pastas. Their signature tiramisu and great coffee are also must-tries when you're here!

4. Audi Dream Farm
Wrap up your Penang getaway with a short trip to the quieter Southwest region of Penang Island and visit Balik Pulau, a quaint town worthy of a visit. One of our favourite things to do here is spending some time at the Audi Dream Farm, a charming mini zoo and farm that is suitable for family trips and all animal lovers.
Spend a day with your loved ones by experiencing nature up close at the farm. Here, you can enjoy their line-up of fun hands-on activities, like animal riding, plant potting, bird feeding and more. Book a Klook Exclusive admission ticket to the Audi Dream Farm, that includes animal feeding!
