What’s new in the city of entertainment? 🎡
Home to multiple fun attractions, including the vibrant Genting SkyWorlds outdoor theme park, as well as hotels, shopping centres, dining outlets, a casino and more, there is no question as to why Genting Highlands has become an all-time favourite destination for both locals and tourists alike.
Not just a regular entertainment hub, heading up to Genting is the perfect day trip in Malaysia in case you're itching for some cool breeze and fresh air. If you're planning a visit here soon, check out this list of the top things you can see and do in Genting Highlands!
14 fun things to do in Genting Highlands
1. Go on rides at Genting SkyWorlds
At the top of our list - no pun intended - is none other than the iconic Genting SkyWorlds outdoor theme park. Meet Genting's sparkly outdoor wonderland - reminiscent of the old theme park that many Malaysians grew up with, but with a fresh, colourful look and so many new, exciting rides.
The theme park is home to 9 uniquely themed worlds spread across 26 acres of land. Explore a wide variety of international class movie-themed rides and attractions (including 20th Century Fox film themes such as Ice Age!) suitable for people of all ages. There are multiple dining establishments, retail outlets, as well as shows and live entertainment scheduled throughout the day, so there's definitely a lot to look forward to here!
2. Go shopping at the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets
Genting was never quite known as a shopping haven but the new Genting Premium Outlets is definitely changing the game. You can find renowned brands like Michael Kors, Coach, Hugo Boss, Kate Spade, and many more on sale for up to 70% off here!
Conveniently located next to the Awana Skyway Cable Car Station, getting to the Genting Premium Outlets is pretty hassle-free. If you’re tired and hungry after walking around, there are also an array of dining options whether it’s the spacious food court or one of the many restaurants (our personal favourite is Baba Nyonya!) and cafes.
3. Check out the indoor theme park, Genting Skytropolis
Feel as if you've stepped right into a steam punk-esque carnival with many exciting attractions and colourful lights at Genting Skytropolis. Refurbished just a few years ago, this indoor theme park in SkyAvenue offers lots of fun for adrenaline junkies and families. With over 20 new attractions and fun rides, it’ll surely keep you occupied for a few hours. Pssst, even if you're not up for hopping on the rides, the neon lights and fun vibe at Skytropolis serve as a fun backdrop for photos!
4. Explore the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Adventureland
On the top floor of SkyAvenue is the intriguing Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Adventureland. It is hard to miss the entrance with its massive armoured elephant on each side, and various eateries around it. In the Adventureland, there are five different attractions that you can explore, including the iconic Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium.
Walk through the exciting world of weird and wacky at the Odditorium, scare yourself silly in the terrifying Zombie Outbreak (this one definitely gave us a fright), and say hello to the dinosaurs at the Jurassic Research Center! That's not all - you can also take aesthetic photos in the Infinity Room, as well as create photo illusions at the 4D Trick Art Museum. Get your Ripley's Adventure Pass on Klook at a discounted rate and gain access to all the 5 attractions here!
5. Visit the Chin Swee Caves Temple
Set on a plot of rocky forested land and surrounded by nature, the Chin Swee Caves Temple is an iconic attraction in Genting Highlands. If you're taking the Awana Skyway Cable Car up, disembark midway at the Chin Swee Station to pop by for a visit!
The temple houses several prayer halls, a nine-storey Pagoda (guests can climb to the top for a bird's eye view of the surrounding landscape!), as well as huge statues of Buddha and Kuan Yin. Simply bask in the serene atmosphere by taking a tranquil stroll in the temple grounds before heading to the top of Genting Highlands.
6. Get a drink at one of the most unique Starbucks in Malaysia
Your trip to Genting isn't complete without sipping on some good old Starbucks coffee in the cool breeze. Although there's a handful of Starbucks stores up in Genting, this one is a unique one on the list - located right inside the majestic Chin Swee Caves Temple!
The architectural style of this store was conceptualised to fit in with the overall look and feel of the Buddhist temple, surrounded by mountains and dreamy mist. It is definitely a must-visit if you are a fan of this coffee franchise.
7. Pamper yourself at The Yanne Onsen
In the mood to treat yourself or a loved one to some well-deserved pampering? Head over to The Yanné Onsen Hotel, a hot spring themed hotel perched atop Genting Highlands. Just imagine escaping the chilly outdoors and heading in to take a dip in the warm waters of the hot spring pools - what a blissful feeling! Despite being manmade, the multi-featured pools here bring in freshly precipitated water from the rocky highland, meaning every soak you take is one rich with minerals from the mountains.
8. Shop and dine in SkyAvenue
What used to be the First World Indoor Theme Park is now a multi-level complex of shops, restaurants, fun attractions, services, and more. You will see it the moment you get down from the SkyAvenue Station of the cable car. Genting Highlands’ very own SkyAvenue lifestyle mall certainly brings high street shopping to a whole new level! Minutes and hours easily pass by in a blink of an eye while wandering around the massive new shopping mall which offers lots of things to see and do.
For foodies, there are also many dining options here than your belly can accommodate! You can feast at the much-hyped Burger & Lobster London, the highly-raved Beauty In The Pot, the Brooklyn favourite pizzeria Motorino (complete with a wood fire oven and all) or dig into juicy burgers, hand-cut fries, and milkshakes at Five Guys, the famous burger joint that hails all the way from the US.
9. Try zip lining at Eagle Landing Zipline
Anyone up for a burst of adrenaline after strolling around the mall? Perfect for thrill seekers, you can now fly from one end of the SkyAvenue mall to the other, at 200-metres up high! The Eagle Landing Zipline stretches across the mall and indoor theme park, bringing you on an adventure high above the crowds and offering you unparalleled views. Besides, we think that this is a pretty quick and cool way to travel all the way from the fourth floor to the first floor of the mall.
10. Catch the hourly SkySymphony display
Spreading across the atrium of the SkyAvenue mall are massive LED displays and every hour, you can witness cinematic visuals combined with specially-composed music. Free to watch for the patrons of the mall, the SkySymphony also has a four-storey high winch installation made of 1,001 winch balls. Watch as this theatre of lights and sound come together for a spectacular visual storytelling.
11. Watch a movie at Bona Cinemas
Don't miss out on the latest films even when you're up in Genting Highlands! Bona Cinemas boasts IMAX theatres, offering you an upgraded viewing experience with wider screens and superb sound systems. Better yet, why not try out their Gold Class D-Box theatres that house customisable motion seats that will move you along with the on-screen action! You're definitely in for a memorable viewing experience whenever you catch a movie here.
12. Challenge your friends at Vision City Video Games Park
Remember the old arcade at Genting Highlands? Don't worry as you and your friends won't be deprived of video games - the Vision City Video Games Park in Genting Grand is reminiscent of the OG arcade, complete with all of your usual gaming favourites. Expect classic games like Pac-Man and Street Fighter to bring out your inner child, or try out newer games like Time Crisis 5 that offers an immersive first person laser-shooting experience.
13. Have a glamping experience at Glamz Genting
Up for a glamping experience instead of spending your night in a hotel? Then this one is a great option for you! Nestled beneath glistening stars in the cool foothills of Genting Highlands, Glamz At Genting is a glamping-style lodge wrapped by cool mist every dusk and dawn.
Offering a unique, laid-back glamping experience for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, it's perfect for gathering with friends, a romantic getaway with your significant other, or even a family adventure. Facilities in this indoor playground were created with safety standards aimed to let the little ones enjoy fun and educational activities. From colourful ball pits to various types of slides, there are plenty of nooks to explore here. It's also the perfect place to host a memorable birthday party at!
