Rules & Requirements For Malaysians Travelling To The United Kingdom
Who can travel to the UK?
Both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals are allowed to travel to the UK, with different travel requirements depending on your vaccination status:
If you are fully vaccinated, you:
- do not need to take a COVID-19 test
- do not need to quarantine upon arrival
- must complete the passenger locator form prior to your trip
If you are not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, you:
- must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 2 days before your departure to the UK
- must book and pay for an on-arrival Day 2 COVID-19 PCR test before your trip
- must complete the passenger locator form prior to your trip
Children aged 0 - 18 and those with medical exemptions from COVID-19 may follow the travel guidelines for vaccinated travellers.
Checklist of documents & tests required for travel:
- Proof of vaccination: your vaccine certificate must include your complete full name, date of birth, vaccine brand and manufacturer, date of vaccination for every dose, and country or territory of vaccination.
- Passenger Locator Form: this can be completed online here and has to be submitted at least 48 hours prior to your arrival in the UK. Once you've submitted the form, you'll receive a QR code via email to be presented as proof of completion.
Will I need to quarantine upon arrival in the UK?
Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to quarantine after arrival. However, if you’re not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, you will need to quarantine if your Day 2 PCR Test result is positive.
What if I test positive for COVID-19 after my arrival?
You may stay in your own home, with friends or family, or in any kind of accommodation while completing your self-isolation. Quarantine rules apply for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers with varying lengths of stay.
Do I need to wear a mask in the UK?
The government of the UK has removed the legal requirement to wear a face mask in the UK, however, we'd still highly recommend you to do so, especially when in crowded and enclosed spaces.
Will I need to quarantine after coming back to Malaysia?
Malaysians who travel overseas from 1 April 2022 will no longer need to quarantine upon entry/return to Malaysia. However, you will have to take a PCR swab test 2 days before departure, and an RTK test 24 hours upon arrival in Malaysia.
If you're travelling before 1 April 2022, you are subject to a self-quarantine upon return to Malaysia (5 days for boosted travellers, 7 days for double-vaccinated, and 10 days for partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers).
