"Welcome To Uniqlo!"
Since the opening of its first store in Malaysia back in 2010, Uniqlo has become a go-to shopping spot for Malaysians in search of stylish winter outfits or comfy everyday outfits. While the good old Uniqlo stores in Malaysia are great, it seems that the Japanese fashion brand has leveled up its game in its home country!
In spring this year, an innovative 3-storey Uniqlo Park opened its doors in Yokohama, Japan - complete with jumbo slides, jungle gyms, interactive spaces, lush greenery, wide playing areas for the little ones (and the young at heart), and more! The concept store aims to be "a store like a park", and to make shopping fun and unique for its patrons.
Uniqlo Park Yokohama
The opening of the Uniqlo Park in Yokohama, Japan was originally meant to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While we're unable to fly to Japan right now, we can't wait to head over once the battle is over.
Located just 30-minutes south of Tokyo, Yokohama is the second-largest city in Japan, and definitely one you should add on to your travel checklist. Here's a sneak peek of Uniqlo Park!
Slides, Slides, Slides
The concept store is nothing short of a playground for kids and adults alike. The first thing you'll probably notice are the huge white slides that span all the way from the roof of the complex, allowing visitors to slide down from level 3 to level 1 (farewell, good old escalators and lifts).
Between the slides, there are different variations of quirky bouldering walls for the little ones to have fun at. Fun fact: all the play areas at the store were designed in collaboration with BorneLund, a Japanese toy company, and are specially put together to provide a safe yet fun and creative space for children to have fun at!
Rooftop Gardens
We bet we can spend an hour just chilling and hanging out at the aesthetic rooftop gardens here. As the Uniqlo Park is located right by Yokohama Bay, you can enjoy the ocean breeze and surrounding seaside views from this great vantage point.
We heard that the store has plans to host special events at this open space once the pandemic is over. Some of the rooftop gardens are also equipped with play areas for children of all ages, such as spidy jungle gyms and trampolines!
Extensive Selection Of Uniqlo Products
If you love shopping at the Uniqlo stores in Malaysia, you'll go crazy in this one. The 3-storey store (that houses both Uniqlo and its sister retailer GU) is stocked with a great selection of items, from the usual apparel we're all familiar with, as well as some that are unique to the store.
You can even print your own customized UT t-shirts simply by drawing out your own design on an iPad. The store also releases limited-edition items available exclusively at Uniqlo Park from time-to-time - a range of Ultraman-inspired apparel was offered to celebrate the opening of the new space few months back!
A patron who has visited the store also reminds everyone to not miss out on the pretty flower corner within the building that sells fresh, seasonal blooms daily! There's also a spacious GU Shoe Lab where you can marvel at (and shop for) fashionable, affordable footwear.
Add Uniqlo Park Onto Your Post-Pandemic List
With so much to explore inside and outside Uniqlo Park - we're not sure how many hours we'll be spending here. Add Uniqlo Park onto your Japan itinerary when you head over after the pandemic - pssst, make sure you keep enough space in your luggage to bring home some Uniqlo goodies!
