Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World
Originally supposed to welcome visitors in 2020 before the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the opening of Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World took a big hit when the coronavirus pandemic put an emergency brake on international travel globally.
Instead of having the chance to roam through a colourful game paradise transformed to real life, we have only been able to explore the Nintendo World on our screens for the past few months. *cries*
Latest Updates On Super Nintendo World's Opening
However, we've finally received an update on the land's official opening date! The park announced on 30 November 2020 that the grand opening of Super Nintendo World is set to be on 4 Feb 2021. In fact, based on the photos released, the land looks almost ready to welcome everyone now - and we're not gonna lie, it truly looks like a Nintendo fan's heaven-on-earth!
Sneak Peek Of The Super Nintendo World
The Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan will be the first attraction based on the firm's games (followed by expansions in Universal theme parks across the globe) and cost over ¥60 billion to construct. The attention to detail put into bringing the land to life is incredible, and guests will be able to marvel at iconic buildings from the games such as Bowser’s Castle. Lots of familiar visuals can be spot from the released images of the park, including tons of adorable Super Mushrooms, stacked Goombas, a Koopa Troopa, moving blocks and coins, and even a Thwomp!
This immersive land will feature Nintendo's legendary worlds, characters, and adventures! It will feature a state-of-the-art Mario Kart and Yoshi-themed rides and attractions that we already can't wait to hop on, as well as restaurants, shops, and other experiences that can only be found at Universal Studios Japan.
Guests will get to immerse in the world by strapping on a Power-Up Band, an innovative technology that will bring gameplay to life. You can keep score, collect virtual coins and stamps, and even punch blocks with the Power-Up Band in the colourful and interactive Super Nintendo World.
Sneak peek images of the majestic Bowser's Castle has also been released publicly for the first time! The castle exudes a mysterious vibe through the photos, amplified with stone walls, spiked fences, heavy iron doors, and a grand staircase.
The World's First Mario Cafe And Store
While the highly-anticipated Super Nintendo World will only be opening its doors to public in 2021, the world's first-ever Mario Café & Store has already opened its doors in the park on 16 Oct 2020!
At the cafe, visitors will get to enjoy exclusive themed food based on the games such as Mario and Luigi pancake sandwiches, drinks served in adorable Super Mushroom bottles, and fruit cream sodas. The vibrant cafe features colorful checkered floors, walls decorated with icons from the games, and tables with polka-dot design!
Other must-eats at Universal Studios Japan:
To differentiate itself from the Mario Cafe, the Mario Store is designed with Mario Kart in mind. Check out the checkered floors, the racing flags, and the clear blue skies that are always present in Mario Kart Land. The Mario Shop will have merch with official Universal Studios Japan designs that can’t be bought anywhere else. While the full range of products hasn’t been released, there will definitely be cute pouches, phone cases, shirts, and even keychains waiting to be brought home!
