[Review] #KlookTries: We Visited VAR LIVE, The Largest VR Theme Park In Malaysia!

Holding the title of the largest VR Theme Park in Malaysia, VAR LIVE is a fun space where you can fight zombies, be a ninja, solve mysteries, and go on a quest in search of hidden ancient treasures!

With 13 exciting games exclusively designed with advanced technology, complete with thematic environments, vibrating consoles, special effects, and realistic props, it's literally home to virtual worlds that exist only in your wildest dreams and imagination. ✨ After hearing so much about all the fun it offers, we finally had the chance to check it out for ourselves last week! Keep reading for a review of our experience at the largest VR Theme Park in Malaysia.

VAR LIVE is located on the second floor of MyTown Shopping Centre - we literally heard the screams while riding up the escalator, so we knew we were headed in the right direction. Since we've pre-booked our Triple Game Combo Package on Klook, so all we had to do was flash our e-voucher at the counter upon arrival - we'd recommend you to do the same for a hassle-free experience and to enjoy discounted rates!

The counter at VAR LIVE has screens and pamphlets on display, giving customers a glimpse of all the games available in the theme park - we were pleasantly surprised to find out that they offer a good mixture of thrilling games (zombies, ghosts, haunted houses, and the likes!) as well as milder, family-friendly ones that even the little ones or the faint-hearted can enjoy.

We were unsure of which game to try out, so the friendly staff brought us on a little tour of the space so we could check out all the different attractions available before making our decision. In the end, we had the chance to try out four vastly different games in under two hours - keep reading for our recommendations of the best games that you shouldn't miss while you're here!

Thrill factor: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Located near the entrance of the theme park, Zombie Jail is one of the crowd favourites at VAR LIVE. Hold your gun tight and get ready to brave a zombie apocalypse along with 4DVR elements such as a vibrating platform, artificial wind, and sound effects. There are a total of 3 variations of the Zombie Jail series at VAR LIVE, so if you enjoy this game, you can also consider playing Zombie Jail 2 and Zombie Jail: No Mercy next!

Thrill factor: 🌟🌟🌟

Super Ninja was the second game we played, thinking we'd need a milder attraction to calm our nerves after that zombie fight. 🧟‍♀️ Take your pick of a Samurai sword or crossbow, put on your 3D glasses, and you'll find yourself transported to a Japanese village. We thought it'll be a really mild game, but ended up screaming and laughing as we fought enemies who attacked us from all directions. This game is perfect for people of all ages and will still give you an adrenaline rush even if zombies and haunted houses aren't your thing, also, the graphics are 💯! We literally felt like we were in an anime film.

We're not gonna lie, our hearts skipped a bit the moment we pulled open the door to the Horror Hospital room, which was filled with wheelchairs drenched in eerie green light. Unlike many of the 'active' games at VAR LIVE that involve lots of shooting and slashing, Horror Hospital is an interactive storyline game, and you'll have to work with your peers to solve a riddle in order to escape - kinda like an Escape Room: Horror Hospital Edition. We won't spoil the fun for you, but if you have a strong heart and wanna challenge your mind a little instead of just shooting at zombies blindly, this one's going to be a fun one for you.

If you're a fan of haunted houses, you can't miss The Others! VAR LIVE calls The Others their 'scream maker' because it's capable of making most people scream, even if you have a strong heart. Get ready for an elevated haunted house experience, filled with tons of jumpscares and eerie elements.

Visiting with kids? Check out the Mystery House located in the room next to The Others instead - this kid-friendly version of a haunted house features cute ghosts in pink and green, you'll have to stare at them in the eyes to defeat them, so make sure you don't blink!

Azuwa takes up a big section in the middle of VAR LIVE because unlike most of the other games where you'll either be seated or standing in a fixed position, you'll have to walk around as you navigate the mysterious jungle in the Azuwa world. This interactive adventure puzzle game requires you to work with your partner to solve puzzles, overcome the fear of heights, brave obstacles, and uncover ancient treasures! Tickets for Azuwa cost RM44 (8% off on Klook) and can be purchased here.

We only managed to try four games at VAR LIVE, but there are many others that looked like so much fun! Guess we'll be coming back again once we've replenished our energy and are ready to scream again. Other highly recommended games that you should check out include Overkill (a multiplayer shooting game), Crazy Rush (a racing game combined with the latest technology), and Zombieway (a large field VR horror shooting game with extremely realistic, interactive mechanisms).

Also, while there are many thrilling games here, there are also a handful of family and kid-friendly options (including a section dedicated to Baby Shark 🤪) that even your little ones (do note though that all rides have a minimum height limit of 110cm) will enjoy. If you're visiting with children, we'd highly recommend adding Super Ninja, Viking Craft, and City Hero to your list. We tried both Super Ninja and Viking Craft, and they were lots of fun even for full-grown adults like us! 😍

I've passed by VAR LIVE many times while shopping at MyTown and have always wondered what's going on inside before finally having the chance to check it out for myself, and it really blew my mind away - it was so much more fun than we expected!

We'd highly recommend coming here with your friends or family because it's definitely more fun when you're playing in a group. Do note that many of the games have a minimum number of at least three participants, so coming in a group of three or more would be preferable - buy hey, don't worry if you don't have so many people in your gang though, if you're short of people, you can still play with other people at the park (we even had a staff join us for one of ours!).
