Nearly all of the mountain excursions are free of charge with the Swiss Travel Pass, so here are some of the Swiss mountains you can visit:
1. Jungfraujoch
You can use the Swiss Travel Pass for Jungfraujoch, also known as the “Top of Europe,” one of the highest summits in the Swiss Alps at 11,300 feet above sea level. It’s also where you’ll find the highest train station in Europe, the Jungfraujoch railway station. To prove just how tall the mountain is, you’ll actually be able to spot Italy from the summit on a clear day!
Klook Tip: Head over to the Sphinx Terrace for the best panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and glaciers.
2. Titlis
Mount Titlis is another mountain with spectacular views of the alpine landscape at an elevation of 10,623 feet. Board a cable car from Engelberg for a scenic journey all the way up to the summit. Once you’re at the top, there are even more attractions to explore, such as the glacier cave that seems to naturally be illuminated by a blue light, as well as the Titlis Cliff Walk, Europe’s highest elevation suspension bridge.
3. Rigi
Get ready to hike the “Queen of the Mountains,” Mount Rigi for an unparalleled view of the countryside. Snap pics of the greenery that seems to stretch on and on, as well as the sparkling waters of the three lakes that surround the mountain—Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, and Lake Lauerz. There are numerous trails that hikers and climbers of all skill levels can take on to reach the summit, while appreciating the view.
4. Stanserhorn
Although Stanserhorn isn’t the tallest mountain in Switzerland (coming in at around 6,227 ft), it has a little history that makes it an interesting visit. Stanserhorn is the home of what was once the world’s longest funicular when it first opened in 1893. Since then, The CabriO, a new double-decker cable car with an open upper deck, has been installed for an even better viewing experience. Atop the mountain is a popular revolving restaurant where guests can dine with a view.
5. Brunni
Take in even more of the Swiss countryside with a trip to Mount Brunni. The charming mountain is only around 6,100 feet high, but still provides a captivating scenery of Switzerland’s lush green valleys. Mount Brunni is most popular for its winter sports, such as skiing, toboggan rides, and snowboarding, plus there’s a mix of easy and challenging hiking trails for tourists to try.
6. Stoos
Stoos is a charming mountain village at 4,300 feet that’s mostly used as a ski resort. There are no cars around the village as it can only be accessed via cable car or via the Stoosbahn—the steepest funicular railway in the world, which is the perfect thrilling start to your Stoos adventure. At the village, indulge in various recreational activities, like skiing and sledding.
7. Gornergrat
Another popular mountain you must visit with your Swiss Travel Pass is Gornergrat. It’s the rocky ridge portion of the Pennine Alps that’s 10,285 feet above sea level—the third highest in the list. Access the mountain via the highest open-air railway in Europe, the Gornergrat railway. Reward your courage with Gornergrat’s several viewpoints where you can spot mountains and glaciers as far as the eye can see, including the Matterhorn and the Gorner Glacier.
Klook Tip: Check out the Matterhorn Photo Point where the mountain will fit perfectly in the background of your pics.
8. Glacier 3000
Find the Glacier 3000 at the highest point of the Vaudois Alps 9,843 feet high. The location offers beautiful views of snow-covered peaks of other popular attractions, such as the Jungfarujoch, the Matterhorn, and the Grand Combin. At the summit, there are various activities for visitors to enjoy, including the Alpine Coaster, the Peak Walk, rides with sledge dogs, and a suspension bridge.
9. Pilatus
Mount Pilatus has several peaks, the highest being Tomlishorn at 6,983 feet. Tourists can visit the mountain via its own railway, the Pilatus Railway, which is the world’s steepest cogwheel railway. In the summer, visitors make the most of the scenery by taking on the “Golden Round Trip,” which includes a boat ride across Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad, a ride up the Pilatus Railway, down the aerial cableways and panorama gondolas, and finally, a bus back to Lucerne.
