Excited to celebrate Pride? Here’s everything we know about Sydney WorldPride so far:
What's WorldPride?
WorldPride is an event that promotes visibility and awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTQIA+) issues on an international level. WorldPride includes parades, unforgettable pride marches, festivals, and other activities such as a human rights conference. Think of it like the Olympics, only it's more festivities, more booze, and a lot more colourful. It's awarded to a host city every two to three years. The first WorldPride event happened in Rome in 2000!
This 2023, WorldPride comes to Sydney, which coincides with the golden anniversary of the first Australian Gay Pride Week and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras' 45th anniversary. The year also marks the 5th year of same-sex marriage in Australia!
Sydney WorldPride comes with the theme "Gather. Dream. Amplify", as it celebrates the diversity of culture, not just of LGBTQIA+ identities, but also of the Asia-Pacific region as it spotlights First Nations culture.
Where is the next WorldPride?
WorldPride 2023 will turn Sydney's key landmarks and fantastic beaches into glittering Pride celebration venues, with dozens of vibrant events in the pipeline. One-off major events will be held across various spots in the city, such as the Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, and the iconic Golden Mile, Oxford Street which will put Sydney back onto the global stage
What are the dates of WorldPride 2023?
Australia's summer just got hotter as Sydney WorldPride takes place from February 17 to March 5, 2023. You're invited to over 300 events over the course of 17 days!
