Matsumoto Castle, located in Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture, is one of Japan's most beautiful and historic castles. Also known as the Crow Castle due to its striking black exterior, it is one of the few original Japanese castles that have survived since the Edo Period. When you visit this national treasure Matsumoto Castle, you can explore the castle grounds, which have a castle moat and beautiful cherry trees that bloom in spring. Inside, you'll find the Japanese castle interior with steep staircases, wooden hallways, and displays of medieval weaponry. The castle tower also offers a top-floor observation platform with stunning views of the Japanese Alps and the surrounding mountains. Don't miss the moon viewing tower and the hidden floor, which were designed for defense. After exploring the castle grounds, you can visit the nearby Matsumoto City Museum to learn more about the region’s history and culture. Whether you're a fan of Japanese history or simply enjoy exploring beautiful landmarks, Matsumoto Castle Nagano is a must-visit. There are even seasonal events like the Ice Sculpture Festival in winter and cherry blossom viewing in spring, making each visit special.

We had an incredible time on the Kamikochi tour! Our guide, Shin, was exceptionally knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about Matsumoto and its castle, even using pictures slides for clarity. The breathtaking views of the Alps and vibrant autumn foliage during our walk in Kamikochi left us in awe. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to experience Japan’s natural beauty and rich history! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A small cozy room in the heart of Matsumoto City. Really accessible with the Matsumoto train station being located closely. Has all the amenities for a business traveler or a tourist - complimentary breakfast, luggage forwarding services, vending machines, manga c9mics library, coin laundry. I will definitely recommend this to everyone

A small cozy room in the heart of Matsumoto town. Location is the biggest advantage being really close to the railway station. The hotel is well equipped with coin laundry, microwaves, manga comics, complimentary breakfast and luggage forwarding services. The free vending machine that dispenses really great coffee and Macha tea is a welcome treat after a long day of exploring the city.

Visiting Matsumoto Castle is really interesting, but a challenge for those with short legs or who are fat. You climb six stories in socks (you carry your shoes with you in a plastic bag). All the steps are very high, some even up to 40 cm. Once you get to the top, you can take a few snapshots through the barred windows. The massive wooden structure is impressive, be careful not to hit your head or change your socks. The e-ticket from Klook was really easy to get and can get you in faster.
