Things to do in Nezu-jinja Shrine

Such an educational, entertaining and hilarious show. The food is delivered shortly after you arrive and is amazing - don’t make the mistake of having lunch beforehand like we did! The show is all in English and the kids loved the humour while we enjoyed learning about sumo. My husband got to participate in taking on the sumo wrestlers at the end which was a huge hit with the kids and a highlight of our trip to Japan. Like any live show, the audience participation is key to making it enjoyable for everyone and we were there with a great group of people from all over the world. I was initially disappointed that we’d missed getting tickets to the actual sumo tournament so we booked in for this. In hindsight, this was a far better option for a young family. It’s right near the Kappabashi St kitchenware shopping district so you can do some knife shopping before or after the event. Well done to the host and team for such a great experience.

What an amazing experience!!! The sensei tries to explain himself as best as possible in English, camera-chan is an incredible help for photos and videos. They are kind, fun and the experience is very dynamic. It is worth every penny.

This is a must-do when in Tokyo! we booked in here on my son’s 12th birthday as a surprise for him. The entire experience was amazing. The staff arranged a birthday cake for a small additional fee (we called them the day prior) and the sumos and entire audience sang happy birthday to him. He was chosen as a participant which was hilarious and whilst wrestling a sumo, the other sumo jumped in next to my husband for a selfie! The staff were fantastic, food delicious and the show very entertaining. We left with a printed photo of the experience, a goodie bag and the happiest birthday boy you could imagine. We can’t recommend this place enough….its also in the perfect location to experience the vibrant Asakusa prefecture with its bustling shopping streets, temples and shrines.

I was in two minds whether to book this but i went in the end and what a fantastic evening i had.. The whole evening is well organised from directions to the pick up point then on to A1 pit bacs then to the the main event in Daikoku. A massive thanks must go to my driver Yama and the rest of the Gaijin tuned car club for experience. So my advice is don't think about it just book it!

My husband and I were planning a trip to Japan and amongst other unique cultural knowledge, we were hoping to get a glimpse into the life of Sumo wrestling. We quickly learned that their competitions are only held during a small window of time each year as well as quickly sold out. The other option we read about was visiting a sumo stable and watching them practice. This seemed cool, but from the reviews it also sounded like a long chunk of a day to commit to if you are courteous and don't get up and leave once you felt you saw enough. Also, some stables I read, ask for no photography which I can understand if they are seriously practicing. And then we came upon this gem of an offer that seemed too cool to be true! While the catch is probably the cost (it's close to $usd100pp and kind of steep for a soup lunch), we are both honestly glad we made the splurge. There were only 2 other couples there with us and the interaction we had with the sumo wrestlers was seriously interesting, entertaining and memorable. When you arrive you are greeted by a man who acts as both host and translator. I'm not sure if it's his actual business or if he is hired help, but he is quite knowledgeable and eager to impress you with info as everyone arrives. Once it starts, he takes on a whole announcer personality (I half expected him to say "let's get ready to ruuuummmblllllle" as they walked out, it was that enthusiastic.) It really adds to the show and gets people into the vibe that this is meant to be fun. And also makes it a little less awkward and more fun as those around you ease into the balance of observing, but not gawking or acting uncomfortable as suddenly these men with minimal attire are lifting their legs and squat 2 feet in front of you. When the wrestlers first come out they give some basic examples of stretches and training techniques, then have a few spars. It's unreal to be that close and witness those first slams into each other. Intense! After that, literally every single person gets a chance to spar with their choice of wrestler while wearing an inflatable sumo outfit. The wrestlers really ham it up and are a load of laughs. Talk about a photo op! And after that they even get each group that is together to come get group shots with them as the translator snaps pics for you. Ha! After the demonstration and photos you watch a bit of footage from one of the stables as the lunch is being served and the sumo wrestlers rest and get in robes. They then sit with you and eat as they encourage you to ask anything and everything about sumo, Japan and even about them personally. We learned so much and they are really nice and funny people. They also give you a copy of a sumo champion list to take home. It's just a simple piece of paper, but it is really neat that they give a souvenir. Things worth noting: -currently they only offer this on Mondays with an 11:30 arrival time (noon it officially starts and lasts about 2 hrs) -its not super easy to find with only their directions. I knew this was going to be a challenge based on the reviews I read, so we headed there early. It's actual really, really easy once you know where to go. I'll never understand why some places seem to complicate what should be very simple directions. I took some pics and added some tips. I plan to attach them to this review I will do and maybe help out some future travelers. We talked to some people that went to the stables and watched some sumo wrestlers practice in their element, but they said it was a long amount of time and not as informative. What we saw tapped into the foreigner expectations and at times felt a bit of a tourist pleasing performance, but it also was very interesting and seemed to give a true, honest insight into what life is like for these fascinating athletes. It was nice to get that piece of Japanese experience in a small, set amount of time and to add it in with a day's worth of activities. I highly recommend!!

Make an appointment at 9:30, and the store clerk will greet you warmly as soon as you arrive; there are 3 options for women’s kimonos, and you can try them on and choose; the process of putting on a kimono is quick and neat, and the photographer also arrived at the scene very early to wait. After getting dressed, he went to nearby scenic spots to take photos. The photographer is from Nanjing and speaks the same language. If you have any spots or poses you want to take photos of, you can suggest them. There are many people around Asakusa, so the photographer will try to avoid the crowds to take photos. He will probably take more than 100 photos, return the kimono on the return trip, and receive it in the evening. Photos sent by the photographer. If you want to rent a kimono and take photos without being crowded, you can make a reservation😄

Highly entertaining and interactive fun sumo show for all ages. Food was good but not sure how the ‘all you can eat’ works. You get the chance to be a sumo and get photos with them too. Well worth it!

This was the number one thing I was the most excited about doing on our Honeymoon! I was not disappointed at all!!
